This role is well suited to someone with electrical apprenticeship training, practical construction experience, and a strong interest in renewable energy.

You will work alongside electricians, project leaders, and installation crews to build, maintain, and troubleshoot high-quality residential and commercial solar systems. The position combines electrical support, hands-on installation, outdoor construction work, and opportunities to continue developing your skills.

AT A GLANCE

  • $25.00-$28.50 per hour, based on experience, apprenticeship level, and certifications
  • Primary operations in the Smithers and Witset area for the foreseeable future
  • Typical 10-12 hour shifts, with overtime expected
  • Outdoor, rooftop, and ground-mounted solar installation work
  • LOA, mileage, and eligible travel expenses compensated for project work
  • Apprenticeship support, on-the-job training, group benefits, annual safety allowance, referral bonus program, EAP, and growth opportunities

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

  • Hands-on experience with solar PV, inverters, wiring, battery storage, and renewable-energy systems.
  • A practical opportunity to build your electrical and construction skills while working with experienced team members.
  • Varied project work across residential and commercial rooftop and ground-mounted installations.
  • Clear opportunities for continued apprenticeship development and career growth within a growing industry.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of grid-connected and off-grid solar systems in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements.
  • Install and secure solar panels on rooftops and ground-mounted structures, considering system design, roof conditions, and site requirements.
  • Assist with DC and AC electrical work, including wiring, inverters, grounding, electrical panels, and system connections, under the direction of qualified electrical personnel.
  • Support the installation and integration of solar battery storage systems for backup power and energy-management solutions.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, fall-protection systems, and required PPE safely and responsibly.
  • Read and follow drawings, technical instructions, manufacturer requirements, and site-specific work plans.
  • Help diagnose system performance issues and complete approved maintenance or repair work.
  • Collaborate with electricians, engineers, project managers, and installation crews to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of installation activities, service work, materials, and equipment as required.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and support basic explanations of system operation and maintenance when directed.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and uphold company standards for safety, quality, and customer service.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At minimum, completion of first-year electrical apprenticeship technical training and the associated workplace hours; second-year completion is preferred.
  • Experience in solar installation, electrical work, construction, or a related hands-on trade environment.
  • A practical understanding of electrical systems, wiring, solar technology, and safe work practices.
  • Fall Protection Certification and comfort working safely outdoors, on ladders, and at heights.
  • Confidence using hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment.
  • Ability to complete physical installation work, including lifting and carrying materials and working in changing weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Experience with battery storage systems, energy solutions, or solar-specific training is an asset.
