About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Radio Advertising Salesperson to join our Radio department as a Contractor (1099). In this full-time, commission-based role with unlimited earning potential, you will be responsible for driving advertising revenue by selling radio ad spots and integrated marketing campaigns to businesses and organizations. You will leverage your sales, radio, and marketing experience to identify prospects, develop relationships, and create effective on-air and off-air promotional solutions. This role offers flexibility with no set schedule, making it ideal for a self-driven professional who excels in an entrepreneurial, performance-based environment and understands the unique dynamics of radio advertising and FCC guidelines.

What You'll Do

  • Identify, prospect, and develop new advertising clients for radio ad spots and marketing campaigns.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of existing advertisers through strong account management and relationship building.
  • Conduct needs assessments with clients to understand their marketing goals and recommend tailored radio and cross-platform solutions.
  • Create, present, and sell advertising packages, including on-air spots, sponsorships, promotions, and digital extensions (as applicable).
  • Negotiate rates, terms, and contracts while ensuring profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (programming, production, marketing) to ensure accurate execution of ad campaigns and sponsorships.
  • Coordinate and book guests for sponsored segments or programs when applicable to client campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain a sales pipeline and track all sales activities, proposals, and follow-ups.
  • Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations, proposals, and campaign recaps to clients.
  • Monitor campaign performance, gather feedback, and optimize future campaigns based on results.
  • Stay current with radio industry trends, audience demographics, and competitor offerings to better position our station’s value.
  • Ensure all advertising content and on-air activities adhere to FCC guidelines and station policies.
  • Represent the station at client meetings, networking events, and community functions to build brand awareness and generate leads.
  • Consistently meet or exceed individual revenue and activity targets in a commission-only environment.
  • Work independently to manage your own schedule, priorities, and territory as a 1099 contractor.

Qualifications

  • Proven sales experience, preferably in media, advertising, or related fields.
  • Previous experience in the radio industry or strong familiarity with radio advertising and programming.
  • Demonstrated marketing and advertising experience, including developing or selling campaigns.
  • Working knowledge of FCC guidelines as they relate to radio advertising and on-air content.
  • Track record of achieving or exceeding sales quotas in a commission-based or performance-driven role.
  • Strong prospecting, negotiation, and closing skills with the ability to build long-term client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to book and coordinate guests for sponsored programming or segments when needed.
  • Highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset, and comfortable working with no set schedule.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients and campaigns simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with basic office and sales tools (e.g., CRM systems, email, spreadsheets, and presentation software).
  • Ability to work as an independent contractor (1099), including managing your own workflow and business expenses as applicable.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to meet clients in person within the station’s market area, as needed.
