Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to lead our credit and collection’s function. This role is responsible for improving cash flow, reducing credit risk and past-due receivables, maintaining accurate customer accounts, and building disciplined, customer-focused collection processes. The Accounting Manager will lead the credit and collections team and partner closely with Accounting, Sales, Operations, Billing, and Customer Service to resolve issues and protect the company’s financial position.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the day-to-day credit and collection’s function, including workload prioritizing, coaching, performance expectations, and escalation management.
• Develop, implement, and consistently apply credit, collections, account review, credit hold, and bad-debt procedures.
• Evaluate new and existing customers for creditworthiness using credit reports, financial statements, payment history, trade references, and other available information.
• Recommend and approve appropriate credit limits, payment terms, deposits, guarantees, and risk-mitigation measures within delegated authority.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging, delinquency trends, customer risk, collection activity, and payment commitments; take timely action on high-risk accounts.
• Drive collection strategies that improve cash flow, reduce days sales outstanding, and minimize bad-debt exposure while preserving productive customer relationships.
• Manage escalated collection matters, negotiate payment arrangements, and coordinate third-party collection or legal action when appropriate.
• Partner with Billing, Sales, Operations, and Customer Service to resolve disputes, missing documentation, pricing issues, claims, and other barriers to payment.
• Ensure cash receipts, adjustments, credits, refunds, write-offs, and customer account reconciliations are accurate, properly supported, and approved.
• Review the accounts receivable subledger and related general ledger accounts; support month-end close, reconciliations, allowance analysis, and audit requests.
• Prepare accurate reporting and cash collection forecasts for leadership, including aging, DSO, past-due balances, collection effectiveness, disputes, credit exposure, and bad-debt risk.
• Strengthen internal controls, documentation, systems, and workflows; identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, applicable collection laws, and accounting standards.
•
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five or more years of progressive experience in accounts receivable, commercial credit, collections, or related accounting functions.
• At least two years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, accounts receivable controls, credit analysis, collections practices, and account reconciliation.
• Experience working in an ERP or accounting system and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information, identify risk, make sound credit decisions, and communicate recommendations clearly.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent organization, follow-through, judgment, and attention to detail in a high-volume environment.
Preferred Experience
• Experience in a multi-location, logistics, transportation, moving, warehousing, or service-based organization.
• Experience managing complex customer portfolios, contractual billing requirements, claims, deductions, or high-volume transactions.
• Professional certification through a recognized credit, collections, or accounting organization.
• Experience improving AR reporting, workflows, automation, or collection performance.

Measures of Success
• Improved cash collections and forecasting accuracy.
• Reduced DSO, past-due balances, and bad-debt exposure.
• Timely identification and escalation of customer credit risk.
• Faster resolution of billing disputes and unapplied cash.
• Accurate reconciliations, reporting, and month-end close support.
• A capable, accountable team with consistent processes and clear performance expectations.
