Kennel Attendant/Isolation Specialist
The Kennel Attendant/Isolation Specialist will be responsible for extended animal care, to include but not limited to, cleaning and disinfection of kennels, setting up kennels for new patients, feeding, watering, and walking of animals housed in one of the clinic’s kennels including isolation and other areas where animals are being held by the clinic for treatment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Cleaning and disinfection of clinic animal kennels everyday and throughout the day to keep animals out of soiled bedding.
· Washing & disinfecting bowls, litter pans, and other animal equipment.
· Give twice weekly lime sulfur baths to animals as directed by veterinarians.
· Know common shelter animal diseases and signs.
· Know location, proper use, and disinfection procedures for safety equipment.
· Follow cleaning and disinfection protocols.
· Follow the process for healthy vs. infected laundry and dishes.
· Follow feeding for patients based on the Veterinarian’s directions.
· Be able to understand the information on kennel cards.
· Use Chameleon to update location of animals, completed assigned tasks such as baths, etc.
· Learn appropriate animal restraint to help veterinary assistants as needed.
· Assist in movement of animals throughout the shelter system.
· Assist staff in cleaning all clinic areas including but not limited to restrooms, surgical suite, exam rooms, kitchen, and laundry.
· Interact with coworkers, both in medical and other departments, with respect and professionalism.
· Follow the shelter’s guiding principles.
· Other duties as assigned by veterinary assistants, veterinarians, and medical director.
Education and/or Work Requirements:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers/staff/patrons. Must be fluent in English.
· Excellent computer proficiency.
· Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary communication.
· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
· Must be flexible, have attention to detail, and sense of urgency.
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Previous shelter experience preferred.
· Previous veterinary assistant experience/schooling preferred.
