General Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Education, the Procurement Services Clinical Field Trainer is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and evaluation of Procurement Services clinical training, including onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development.

This role serves as the primary field-based clinical trainer for Procurement Services, providing hands-on instruction, real-time coaching, and performance evaluation during donor recovery activity in hospital operating rooms across the service area. The Clinical Field Trainer partners closely with Procurement Services leadership, the Education team, and hospital partners to ensure training standardization, regulatory compliance, and adherence to operating room standards and sterile surgical practices.

Working within the surgical environment, the Field Trainer supports Procurement Specialists in developing proficiency in donor management, surgical recovery processes, back-table organ preservation, and collaboration with transplant surgeons and hospital operating room teams.

Utilizing team-specific data, quality indicators, and performance metrics, the Field Trainer identifies training gaps, supports remediation planning, and contributes to process improvement initiatives that strengthen clinical performance and operational consistency across the Procurement Services department.

The position requires schedule flexibility to include day, night, weekend, and holiday work, as well as travel throughout the service area to donor hospitals to facilitate field-based training activities.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, surgical technology, organ procurement, or related health sciences field preferred.
  2. Three (3) years of clinical experience in organ procurement, surgical services, transplant recovery, or equivalent operating room environment with demonstrated technical proficiency.
  3. Two (2) years of experience in preceptor, educator, or clinical trainer responsibilities, including direct observation, skills evaluation, and performance feedback.
  4. Certification in a relevant clinical discipline (e.g., CTP, CST, or equivalent) preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage multiple responsibilities and function independently.
  • Demonstrated skills in teaching, coaching, and serving as a role model to team members.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and codes related to organ, eye, and tissue donation.
  • Advanced knowledge of organ recovery procedures, sterile technique, and surgical instrumentation used in donor recovery operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively within hospital operating room environments and multidisciplinary surgical teams.
  • Experience in performing and teaching back-table organ preparation and preservation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of UNOS/OPTN requirements, transplant regulations, and OPO clinical standards.
  • Ability to maintain professional collaboration with transplant surgeons, hospital OR staff, and procurement teams during donor recovery activity.
  • Experience in facilitating simulations focused on clinical skills and communication best practices with new and tenured team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of training techniques, learner assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Ability to demonstrate high standards of customer service and accountability for program results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaborative skills, relationship building, and problem analysis attributes.
  • Skilled and effective in providing constructive feedback and navigating crucial conversations in the mentoring role.
  • Maintains confidentiality related to all aspects of interactions with new and tenured employees as it relates to performance.
  • Ability to travel throughout service area to facilitate training and related activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with the Managers of Education and Procurement Services Team leadership in all aspects of comprehensive training for Procurement Services job roles to include the initial training period, process confirmations, regular competency evaluations, and ongoing education.
  2. Facilitates a broad range of field training experiences with team members during initial training period, following established training checklists, Infinite Legacy and hospital SOPs and protocols in a supportive and positive learning environment to encourage knowledge retention and skill development.
  3. Promotes professional collaboration with transplant surgeons, anesthesiology teams, and hospital operating room staff to ensure smooth integration of Procurement Services training activities within the surgical environment.
  4. Develops and deploys curriculum for Procurement Services training and education programs with a focus on clinical field experiences, competencies, and ongoing education.
  5. Provides real-time clinical instruction during donor recovery cases, including sterile field management, surgical instrumentation, organ recovery techniques, and back-table organ preservation procedures.
  6. Facilitates simulation programs targeted for Procurement Services Team members, to include developing clinical case scenarios, leading training sessions, providing debriefing venue to review progress towards training goals and offering constructive feedback.
  7. Collaborates in all aspects of the evaluation and documentation of team member training, to include progress check-ins, competency assessments, focused individual training needs, as well as completing all associated documentation.
  8. Monitors the performance of new employees during their initial training period, to assess any gaps in training retention or behavior and provide timely feedback to Education, Procurement Services and Human Resources leadership, as indicated.
  9. Serves as a clinical subject matter expert (SME) with special focus on organ procurement, donor recovery processes, operating room practices, and back-table organ preservation techniques.
  10. Participate in a work schedule that prioritizes field experiences, case activity signoffs, and process confirmation activities, based on training needs of team members.
  11. Collaborate with Education Team in facilitating workshops, in-services, external tissue partner activities, and training modules related to all Procurement Services practices and SOPs.
  12. Participates in tracking, analysis and reporting of data elements associated with Procurement Services training metrics. In conjunction with the Vice President of External Affairs and Education and other leadership, participates in on-going data analysis to target specific areas for improvement.
  13. Analyze training needs assessments using a variety of sources, such as employee feedback, training metrics, non-conformances, process confirmation, and testing tools in support of identifying gaps in training, skills, and performance.
  14. Participate in ongoing initiatives with assigned personnel to track and measure competency for new and tenured team members via the use of meaningful metrics, innovative learning modalities, process confirmation, and ongoing competency maintenance.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
