BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for cleaning and supplying selected areas of the hospital to maintain an aseptic environment and prevent healthcare-associated infection using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED

Degree: General

License/Certification Required: None

Minimum Work Experience: Related experience preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Must meet demands of an active position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Using appropriate cleaning techniques, chemicals and personal protective equipment, disinfects patient rooms, core areas and/or office, including dusting, replacing trash and linen liners, restocking supplies, and promptly reporting maintenance needs.
  • Vacuums and damp mops all elevators routinely
  • Maintains work area and equipment in the condition required by department standards
  • Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans
  • Demonstrates an understanding and willingness that environmental care is an important part of the delivery of a care and service to East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe role responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Interacts with people in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner and maintains confidentiality of al hospital and patient information.
  • Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and hospital policy.
  • Continuously displays a “can do” attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at hospital.
  • Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
  • Completes work assignments on time and makes the transition to the next staff member smooth and efficient.
  • Willingly accepts any other assignments that may be requested, including flexibility when interrupted before finishing their current work assignment.
  • Works efficiently and proactively informing EVS leadership of obstacles or issues that will impact meeting their work goals promptly.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
