Job Description

Description:

About the Company

The Living Company (TLC) is a fully integrated interior solutions platform serving top developers, owners, operators, and general contractors in student housing, multifamily, and hospitality. We provide end-to-end services for furniture (FF&E), cabinetry, countertops, and shower systems, with capabilities spanning design, manufacturing, project management, and installation. With more than 1 million bedrooms and 250,000 kitchens delivered, and backed by a global supply chain and an in-house quality control team of more than 200 professionals, TLC supports projects from concept through completion. We operate from offices in Dallas, Chicago, Memphis, and Ho Chi Minh City.

TLC Corporate Finance supports all four operating divisions (University Furnishings, TLC Hospitality, Blake Solutions, and TLC Studio) from our Dallas headquarters. The team owns accounting, financial planning and analysis, and business partnering across a multi-entity, project-based business, giving leaders the timely, accurate information they need to price work, manage margin and cash, and grow.

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant is an experienced, hands-on accountant who owns assigned entities and account areas within TLC's centralized accounting team. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the role completes complex close work with a high degree of independence and is accountable for the accuracy of the financial records in its areas.

This position prepares complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules across a multi-entity, project-based business, including intercompany activity, fixed assets, and WIP and revenue recognition under ASC 606. The Senior Accountant also performs first-level review of Staff Accountant work and serves as a technical resource for the broader team, including AR and AP staff.

The Senior Accountant supports internal controls, prepares audit schedules and responds directly to external auditor requests for assigned areas, and partners with FP&A and divisional operations on account-level detail and variance explanations. The role looks for ways to tighten processes and reduce manual effort and brings recommendations to accounting leadership.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced accountant to deepen technical skills and take on review responsibility in a multi-entity, PE-backed business, with a clear path to grow into an Accounting Supervisor role.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Monthly Close
  • Own assigned monthly close tasks for designated entities and account areas, completing them accurately and on schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and post complex journal entries, including accruals, prepaid amortization, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and period-end adjustments, in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and maintain WIP schedules and related revenue recognition (ASC 606) entries for project-based activity.
  • Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve reconciling items before close sign-off.
  • Assist with the quarterly and annual close, including financial statement preparation, footnote support, and year-end adjustments.
  • Communicate open items, risks, and accounting policy questions to the Accounting Supervisor promptly.
Review & Technical Support
  • Perform first-level review of Staff Accountant journal entries and reconciliations before submission to the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Staff Accountants and AR/AP staff, and help onboard and train new team members.
  • Coordinate with the AR/AP and Billing & Collections teams on cash application, customer billing entries, and revenue recognition questions.
  • Help create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for assigned close tasks so the work is consistent, auditable, and resilient to turnover.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare assigned sections of the monthly reporting package, account summaries, and variance analyses for review by the Accounting Supervisor and Accounting Manager.
  • Analyze period-over-period and budget-to-actual movements in assigned accounts, explaining key drivers clearly and concisely.
  • Provide FP&A with actuals data, account-level detail, and variance commentary for management reporting.
  • Support cash flow and liquidity reporting, including AR/AP aging and working capital trends.
Controls, Audit & Systems
  • Follow TLC's internal control policies and accounting procedures; identify control gaps and recommend improvements to the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Ensure transactions are coded accurately and consistently in NetSuite across assigned entities.
  • Prepare PBC schedules and respond directly to external auditor requests for assigned areas.
  • Build and maintain NetSuite saved searches and reports that improve close efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Support M&A integration as needed, including opening balance sheet entries and onboarding acquired entities into the close.
  • Research and resolve account-level issues with vendors, customers, and company cardholders, understanding the downstream financial impact.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close tasks.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and complex journal entries.
  • Working knowledge of WIP and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Experience in a multi-entity accounting environment, including intercompany transactions.
  • Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting external audits.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and explain it clearly to non-finance leaders.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups) and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Comfort using AI-assisted tools (such as Claude) to support analysis, reporting, and process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CMA, or progress toward either.
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience, including saved searches; Sage Intacct or similar cloud ERP also considered.
  • Public accounting or audit experience.
  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, FF&E, or another project-based industry, or in a PE-backed company.
  • Experience with the Full Clarity Model.
