AV Design Engineer
Job Title: AV Design EngineerLocation: Charlotte NC (On-site with occasional travel to client sites)Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled AV Design Engineer to design, document, and support audiovisual solutions for commercial, enterprise, and/or government environments. This role is responsible for translating client requirements into detailed AV system designs, producing high-quality 2D and 3D drawings, and ensuring solutions align with industry standards and best practices. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise across leading AV manufacturers and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign complete audiovisual systems for conference rooms, training spaces, auditoriums, collaboration spaces, and other commercial environmentsDevelop detailed 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings, including signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, equipment layouts, and floor plansCreate AV system schematics, elevations, and technical documentation to support installation teamsCollaborate with sales, project managers, and field engineers to ensure designs meet client requirements, budgets, and timelinesProvide technical support during pre-sales, project execution, and installation phasesReview architectural drawings and construction documents to ensure AV integration feasibilitySelect appropriate AV equipment and solutions based on functional requirements and industry standardsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of AV technologies, products, and manufacturer offeringsAssist with change orders, value engineering, and design revisions as required
Required Qualifications3+ years of experience in audiovisual system design or engineeringStrong proficiency with AutoCAD, including 2D and 3D drawingsSolid working knowledge of AV systems and signal flow conceptsHands-on experience with major AV manufacturers, including:CrestronExtronKramerBiAmpShurePolycomVaddioUnderstanding of audio, video, control, and UC systemsAbility to read and interpret architectural and construction drawingsStrong communication and documentation skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Preferred QualificationsCTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I certificationExperience designing AV solutions for enterprise, education, healthcare, or government environmentsFamiliarity with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, or other UC platformsExperience supporting bids, proposals, and client presentations
