Position Overview:
The Tax Senior Manager in the Real Estate Practice consults on complex tax matters, oversees compliance for real estate clients, leads engagement teams, and provides strategic guidance on partnership taxation and transaction matters. This role includes business development, staff development, workflow management, and cultivating long-term client relationships. The firm views this position as a future leadership role for a motivated, growth-driven professional.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and sustain strong relationships with real estate clients across the market.
- Partner with internal teams to expand services and provide comprehensive solutions.
- Analyze industry trends to advise clients through shifting market conditions.
- Continuously develop technical tax expertise and specialty knowledge.
- Perform technical reviews of tax returns and conduct advanced tax research.
- Review transaction documents such as operating agreements, purchase agreements, and LOIs.
- Evaluate workpapers related to partnership allocations, basis calculations, and complex matters.
- Oversee engagement economics, billing, and collections.
- Manage workflow, communication, and planning to meet client expectations.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and recognition to team members.
- Attract, develop, and retain top tax talent while fostering long-term career growth.
- Build and maintain a professional network and support business development efforts.
- Represent the firm within the community and professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law; Master’s in Tax/LLM preferred.
- 7+ years of recent public accounting experience managing real estate tax engagements.
- Significant experience with partnerships and complex flow-through entity matters.
- Strong ability to review and interpret operating agreement tax language.
- CPA certification required.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities.
- Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with tax technology and workflow management tools.
