Field Service Engineer I – Electro-Mechanical Equipment

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA | Field-Based
Employment Type: Full-Time | Temp-to-Hire
Pay: $24.00–$29.00 per hour
Travel: Up to 80%, including overnight travel

About the Role

Quest International is hiring a Field Service Engineer I to support installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repair of medical and industrial electro-mechanical equipment throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

This is a hands-on field service repair role. The right candidate must be comfortable working independently at customer sites, using diagnostic tools, troubleshooting physical equipment, replacing parts/modules, documenting service work, and traveling regularly.

This is not an IT help desk, desktop support, networking, software, computer science, or general technical support position.

Must-Have Requirements

• Must currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area or have already completed relocation
• Must have hands-on electro-mechanical troubleshooting, repair, or equipment service experience
• Must be comfortable troubleshooting equipment to the FRU/module/part level
• Must have experience using diagnostic tools such as a digital multimeter
• Must have experience working with wiring, connectors, cabling, assemblies, or sensitive electronic components
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must have your own reliable vehicle available for work-related travel
• Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time, including overnight travel when needed
• Must be comfortable with a temp-to-hire employment structure
• Must be aligned with the $24.00–$29.00 per hour pay range

Key Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair medical and industrial equipment at customer sites
• Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repair services
• Troubleshoot equipment issues to the FRU/module/part level
• Replace failed parts, modules, assemblies, boards, sensors, connectors, or cabling as needed
• Work with wiring harnesses, connectors, cabling, and sensitive electronic components
• Use service tools such as digital multimeters, vacuum/pressure meters, frequency counters, and other diagnostic equipment
• Follow service manuals, work instructions, safety procedures, and customer requirements
• Document service activity, findings, repairs, parts used, and next steps clearly
• Communicate professionally with customers, internal teams, and service leadership
• Travel throughout the assigned territory, including overnight travel when required

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of hands-on technical repair, field service, equipment maintenance, electro-mechanical repair, or related experience
• Experience servicing electro-mechanical products or physical equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot to the FRU, module, part, or component level
• Experience using a digital multimeter or similar diagnostic tool
• Experience with wiring, connectors, cabling, assemblies, or sensitive electronic components
• Ability to read and follow service documentation, work instructions, diagrams, or technical manuals
• Valid driver’s license required
• Own reliable vehicle available for work-related travel
• Ability to travel up to 80% of the time
• Ability to work independently at customer sites
• Strong customer communication and documentation skills
• Must currently be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or have already completed relocation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with medical, diagnostic, lab, imaging, optical, OEM, or industrial equipment
• Prior customer-site field service experience
• Experience using vacuum/pressure meters, frequency counters, power supplies, diagnostic testers, or similar tools
• Military technical training, BMET, electronics, electrical, automotive, aviation, robotics, mechatronics, or industrial maintenance background
• Experience working in regulated, ISO, healthcare, manufacturing, or quality-controlled environments
• Command line or PowerShell familiarity

Not the Right Fit If Your Background Is Mainly

This role may not be aligned if your experience is primarily:

• IT help desk or desktop support
• Software development or coding
• Network administration
• Computer science projects only
• General customer service with no equipment repair
• Warehouse, shipping, or assembly work without troubleshooting responsibility
• Academic engineering projects without practical field repair experience
• No Bay Area location or completed relocation
• No valid driver’s license or reliable vehicle
• Pay expectations above $29.00 per hour

Employment Structure

This position is temp-to-hire. Long-term conversion is based on performance, attendance, reliability, business need, and hiring manager/HR approval. Conversion is not guaranteed.
