Position Title: Assistant Business Operations Leader

Reporting To: Business Operations Leader

Job Summary:

The Assistant Business Operations Leader supports the daily execution of operations at a single location, with responsibilities spanning inventory management, dispatch, warehousing, customer service, transportation, and administrative functions. This role is approximately 70% tactical and 30% strategic, with a strong focus on operational coordination, problem-solving, and process execution. The Assistant Business Operations Leader is a key partner in driving efficiency, cost control, and service-level adherence. This role also acts as the site leader when the Business Operations Leader is on PTO or away from the facility, ensuring continuity of operations and team oversight. The position also serves as a developmental role for future leadership, with growing exposure to strategic initiatives in support of the Business Operations Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily execution of inventory control, order fulfillment, dispatching of drivers, transportation, and office coordination to ensure high performance and operational continuity.
  • Act as on-site leader in the absence of the Business Operations Leader, providing direction and support to the team and maintaining productivity and accountability.
  • Coordinate driver dispatch operations, ensuring accurate routing, timely communication, and on-time, cost-effective deliveries.
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring accuracy in documentation, efficient loading/unloading, and real-time communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in optimizing operational workflows, warehouse layout, inventory accuracy, and delivery tracking.
  • Support strategic operational goals by aligning daily execution with KPIs, customer requirements, and company standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and internal departments to support fulfillment, resolve service issues, and uncover process improvement opportunities.
  • Support operational readiness for sales initiatives, including new customer onboarding, product launches, and fulfillment scalability.
  • Serve as a liaison with external IT, insurance, and service providers to support systems setup, claim handling, and issue resolution.
  • Maintain accurate records and digital filing systems using platforms such as SharePoint.
  • Support inventory planning and reordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing costs.
  • Lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
  • Provide oversight and mentoring to office and logistics support staff, conduct performance evaluations, and participate in hiring, coaching, and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Prepare reports, maintain KPIs, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across operations.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned in support of company objectives.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong tactical operations skills across warehousing, dispatching, transportation, and customer service functions.
  • Ability to step into a leadership role when required, maintaining accountability and continuity of operations.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems, transportation coordination, and workflow optimization.
  • Proven experience overseeing driver dispatch and transportation logistics.
  • Solid understanding of vendor relations, supply chain efficiency, and fulfillment processes.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Comfort with data tracking, performance reporting, and system tools (e.g., SharePoint, 8X8, logistics software).
  • Ability to operate independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in distribution, manufacturing, or logistics operations.
  • Prior experience managing or supporting warehouse, transportation, dispatch, and inventory operations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and commitment to a safe working environment.
  • Experience working in a P&L-driven organization is preferred.
