Your Opportunity + Impact
The Survey Technician assists the Survey Party Chief in collecting field data and information needed for survey maps and CAD documents. This role operates and adjusts various surveying instruments, compiles field notes, and inputs data into relevant software. Additionally, the Survey Technician is responsible for promptly reporting any field-related issues to the Survey Party Chief to ensure project efficiency, accuracy, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates, maintains, and transports surveying equipment (GPS, Total Station, levels, data collectors, etc.) to collect accurate field data for survey preparation.
- Supports the Survey Party Chief by carrying out daily field assignments and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Assists with construction layouts by setting stakes and flagging points in accordance with project specifications.
- Collects invert elevations, subsurface utility data, and other site information accurately and efficiently.
- Performs site preparation, including line clearing, brush removal, and obstacle management, using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Documents project sites through photography and field notes as required.
- Reviews and maintains the Equipment Inventory List; ensures all tools and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and reported if damaged.
- Assists with upkeep of company field vehicles, ensuring they remain stocked, clean, and in safe operating condition.
- Adheres to company policies, industry standards, and safety protocols to promote quality and safe work practices.
- Provides assistance with office tasks when needed, including downloading field data, electronic file management, deed plotting, and other related duties.
- Participates in ongoing training and development to stay current with surveying best practices, technology, and industry guidelines.
- Demonstrates familiarity with construction plans, engineering drawings, and regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience
- Education: High School diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Technology or related field preferred.
- Experience: No previous relevant work experience is required. Prior internships in the A/E industry is preferred.
- Licensure/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, OSHA-10 certification, or industry-related credentials are a plus. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
- Ability to work in rugged outdoor conditions, including extreme weather, remote locations, and challenging terrain.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, and other external sources.
