About This Position
This position is responsible for maintaining various city buildings’ appearance and cleanliness.
- Cleans, sanitizes, and upkeeps conference rooms, offices, break rooms, the courthouse, classrooms, bathrooms, government facilities, common areas, halls, and other rooms upon request.
- Assists in maintenance, including remodeling, painting, organizing, changing lights, minor electrical repairs, minor plumbing repairs, changing filters, moving furniture, pressure washing, and installing cameras.
- Transports materials and equipment for projects.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge of the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of personal protection equipment and usage.
- Knowledge of the safe transport of equipment and tools.
- Skill in working around others in work sites.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- No experience requirements.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Guidelines include the employee handbook, the custodial handbook, and the GBI Security Training and Awareness Statement. These guidelines are clear and specific requiring little interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied custodial duties. Dealing with various people and working around room schedules to clean contributes to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to maintain a clean environment for building and room functions. Successful performance helps ensure the functionality, safety, and cleanliness of various spaces.

- Contacts are typically with the maintenance staff and police administration.
- Contacts are typically to schedule duties and provide services and materials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- The work is typically performed in various rooms. The employee may also be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
