Position Overview

The Banquet Captain plays a key leadership role in coordinating and supervising banquet events, ensuring seamless execution, high-quality service, and exceptional guest experiences. This position leads banquet servers and support staff, oversees event setup and service flow, and ensures all Banquet Event Order (BEO) specifications are met within a full-service hotel environment.

What You'll Do

Event Execution & Service Leadership

  • Lead banquet service during meetings, weddings, galas, corporate events, and social functions.
  • Ensure all event setups—including tables, staging, linens, buffets, bars, and décor—are completed according to BEOs and diagrams.
  • Oversee food and beverage service, ensuring proper timing, presentation, and adherence to service standards.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients and guests during events, addressing questions and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Monitor staff performance and service flow to ensure smooth, efficient, and professional execution.

Team Supervision & Training

  • Direct banquet servers, bartenders, and housemen during setup, service, and breakdown.
  • Assign tasks and stations, provide clear instructions, and communicate event details.
  • Conduct pre-function meetings to review BEOs, service standards, timelines, and guest expectations.
  • Assist with training new staff on banquet procedures, service techniques, and hotel standards.
  • Provide feedback to management on staff performance and operational needs.

Communication & Coordination

  • Work closely with the Banquet Manager, Culinary team, Catering & Events, and Audio-Visual departments to ensure flawless event execution.
  • Communicate last-minute changes, dietary requirements, or special requests to the appropriate teams.
  • Coordinate food timing with the kitchen and support beverage service as needed.

Quality Assurance & Guest Service

  • Ensure the banquet space is clean, organized, and visually appealing before guest arrival.
  • Monitor guest needs throughout the event and ensure prompt, attentive service.
  • Assist with VIP guests or high-profile events as directed.
  • Oversee post-event breakdown, ensuring cleanliness and proper storage of equipment.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Ensure accurate event documentation including seating charts, checks, and consumption records.
  • Support inventory tracking of banquet supplies and report shortages or maintenance needs.
  • Follow hotel guidelines for cash handling, beverage controls, and safe alcohol service.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Banquet and Food & Beverage operations.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.

What You'll Bring

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Prior banquet or food and beverage experience preferred.
  • Full-service hotel banquet experience preferred.
  • Experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
  • Training in hospitality or service management preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to direct a large team.
  • Excellent guest service and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret BEOs, diagrams, and event timelines accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Knowledge of banquet service techniques, food safety, and responsible alcohol service.
  • Ability to lift, move, and transport banquet equipment and stand for long periods.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Food Safe Serve/Texas Food Handlers Certification
  • CPR certification
