Job Description
The Director of Development is a key member of La Casa’s senior leadership team, responsible for driving a comprehensive and sustainable revenue strategy to support the organization’s mission and growth.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this role leads all aspects of fundraising, communications, community engagement, and volunteer programs. The Director of Development will design and execute a multi-channel advancement strategy that strengthens and diversifies revenue streams while elevating La Casa’s visibility and impact across San Francisco.
This is a highly strategic and externally facing role, requiring a strong fundraiser, relationship-builder, and team leader who can translate mission into meaningful investment and engagement.
Core Responsibilities
Fundraising & Revenue Strategy
- Partner with the Executive Director to develop and implement an annual and multi-year development strategy aligned with organizational priorities
- Lead efforts to grow and diversify revenue across major gifts, foundations, corporate partnerships, government funding, events, and individual giving
- Develop and manage major donor portfolios, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
- Oversee all private grant applications and reporting processes
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including innovative and nontraditional revenue streams
- Collaborate with Finance to develop revenue projections, track performance, and ensure fiscal alignment
- Provide regular reporting and analysis to senior leadership
External Relations & Communications
- Oversee production of key materials, including annual reports, donor communications, and campaigns
- Serve as an ambassador for La Casa, strengthening relationships with funders, partners, and community stakeholders
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to elevate awareness of domestic violence issues and La Casa’s impact across diverse audiences
Team Leadership & Management
- Provide strategic leadership and supervision to the Development team
- Build a high-performing, collaborative team culture grounded in accountability and shared mission
- Oversee volunteer program strategy, including recruitment, training, and engagement
- Partner with leadership on staff development, hiring, and performance management
Board & Organizational Leadership
- Partner with the Board Development Committee to strengthen fundraising capacity and engagement
- Contribute to agency-wide strategic planning, growth initiatives, and cross-functional leadership
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (flexibility for evenings/weekends required)
