Job Overview:

As an Echo Technologist, you will perform essential echocardiograms daily for both inpatients and outpatients across all age groups, ranging from neonates to geriatrics. You will play a critical role in cardiac diagnostics by coordinating patient transport, scheduling procedures around outpatient appointments, and directly assisting cardiologists with Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) procedures. This role requires a highly organized professional who can balance clinical excellence with efficient departmental operations to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and care.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Diploma from an accredited echocardiography program.
  • Registry eligible with the requirement to obtain registration as a Registered Echocardiography Technician within the first year of employment.
  • 1 to 2 years of professional Echo experience.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Ability to meet physical demands including frequent standing, walking, and the ability to push/pull equipment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience performing portable echocardiograms in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in pediatric and neonatal cardiac imaging.
  • Proficiency in TEE scope preparation, cleaning, and procedural assistance.
  • Familiarity with hospital safety protocols, including Universal Protocol and CDC Hand Hygiene Guidelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform daily echocardiograms on inpatients and outpatients across all age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Conduct portable echocardiograms when clinically necessary to accommodate bedbound or high-acuity patients.
  • Assist cardiologists during TEE procedures, including the critical preparation and sterilization of the TEE scope before and after use.
  • Identify life-threatening findings, such as pericardial effusion with tamponade or thrombus, and provide immediate notification to the appropriate physician.
  • Coordinate complex scheduling by balancing inpatient scans with outpatient appointments and collaborating with the transport team for timely patient arrival.
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to core competencies such as correct patient identification, fall prevention, and electrical safety of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records by setting up files for reading physicians and compiling data for archiving.
  • Manage departmental resources through efficient supply ordering, linen management, and participation in quality improvement projects.
