Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Quality Control Technician to support both field paving operations and plant production for aggregate and hot mix asphalt (HMA). This role is responsible for performing on-site and laboratory testing, inspections, and quality control activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in outdoor field environments and hands-on plant or lab settings, be mechanically inclined, and have a strong understanding of paving and production operations (or a willingness to learn). This position requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and extended hours, based on project schedules and operational needs.

Essential Functions:

  1. Protect Family and Friends. Follow all Company Safety Policies and Procedures as well as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and guidelines. Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards while supporting business activities, objectives, and programs.
  2. Mastery. Reliably perform all required aggregate and hot mix asphalt (HMA) testing in both field and laboratory settings in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, applicable DOT specifications, and the company Quality Control Program. Conduct testing including gradation, asphalt content, volumetrics, density, temperature monitoring, and RAP (recycled asphalt pavement) evaluation.
  3. Results matter. Accurately document, input, and maintain all quality control test results in QC software and reporting systems. Ensure data integrity, timely reporting, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  4. Ownership and caring. Maintain a strong understanding of aggregate and asphalt plant production equipment and paving operations to identify, diagnose, and help correct production or quality deficiencies. Support evaluation of materials and processes and assist in recommending adjustments to mix designs, production parameters, or operations to maintain specification compliance.
  5. Communicate. Share test results, findings, and quality concerns promptly with plant management, paving crews, contractors, and dispatch. Act as a liaison to support proactive decision-making and alignment on mix quality, production schedules, and field performance.
  6. Dedication. Adapt to changing field and plant conditions to ensure quality control testing is completed accurately and on time. Collect, prepare, and verify aggregate, HMA and RAP samples in accordance with specification requirements while remaining actively engaged in ongoing paving and plant operations.
  7. Obligated. Maintain testing equipment, tools, and laboratory supplies in clean, calibrated, and working condition. Ensure all materials and instruments are organized, inventoried, functional, and ready to support accurate quality control testing.

Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or technical training in construction materials, civil engineering, or a related field is a plus.
  2. Prior experience in asphalt testing, paving operations, or construction materials quality control strongly preferred (on-the-job training available).
  3. Familiarity with DOT specifications and quality standards related to asphalt paving are preferred.
  4. Relevant certifications such as NETTCP, ACI, or equivalent preferred (or willingness to obtain is required).
  5. Must have a strong attention to detail and proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
  6. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, and weekends, based on project demands.
  7. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  8. Authorization to work in the U.S.
