Job Description

About the Role:

The Planer Mill Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations within the planer mill to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production of lumber products. This role requires managing the daily workflow, coordinating with maintenance and production teams, and implementing process improvements to optimize output and reduce waste. The manager will lead a team of operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and teamwork. They will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company standards while managing budgets and resources effectively. Ultimately, the Planer Mill Manager ensures that production goals are met on time and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in manufacturing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in planer mill operations or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of planer mill machinery, safety standards, and production processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, production schedules, and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and production tracking software, Microsoft skills, word and excel.
  • Strong leadership Skills

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the planer mill to meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Manage and lead a team of mill operators, maintenance staff, and support personnel
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and safety protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend machinery life.
  • Analyze production data and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, quality control, and other departments to ensure smooth production flow and timely delivery of products.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, control costs, and report on operational performance to senior management.
