Holidays - Every Third Holiday, Monday through Friday, On Call - Required, Weekends - Every Other Weekend
Scheduled Hours:
530-12, every other weekend 530-12, holidays by rotation

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager performs all venipunctures and capillary collection on patients and transports all specimens to the Laboratory. Settings include physician’s offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home draws.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Draws blood specimens following proper procedure.
2. Labels all specimens according to policy
3. Transports or prepares for transport all specimens to the laboratory
4. Follow all laboratory and hospital safety rules and universal precautions.
5. Monitors patient for negative reactions and takes appropriate measures to allay patient anxiety
6. Greets patient using customer care concepts
7. Verify patient information and in draw station enter information into the computer
8. Responds to inquiries from physician’ office, nursing home or patient
9. Verifies or confirms patients’ orders as needed
10. Maintains appropriate logs or records
11. Participates in the training of new employees
12. Assures that written physician orders accompany requested tests and ensures diagnosis is present
13. Informs supervisor of any patient or physician concerns for PI trending
14. Maintains an inventory of supplies consistent with usage
15. Covers in all areas of phlebotomy as needed
Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Graduate of a Certificate program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Must have reliable transportation and ability to work independently.
Preferred:
1. Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered mostly sedentary with frequent standing and bending. Regular exposure to blood and body fluids. May be required to move/lift objects up to 50 lbs. Position requires work indoors in a lab environment.
