The company has grown from 11 employees in 2017 to over 450 staff globally today, and is on track to reach around 550 by the end of 2026. This expansion includes investment of over A$50 million annually in R&D, a global pipeline exceeding A$2.5 billion, and continuous scaling of production capacity to meet accelerating demand.
About the role
DroneShield is seeking an experienced Commercial Director with a strong background in defence, security or critical infrastructure sales across the Middle East region.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer this role will play a key role in driving regional growth, expanding DroneShield’s footprint, and developing strategic customer and partner relationships across government and enterprise markets.
The role is ideally based in Saudi Arabia or UAE and will involve regular travel throughout the GCC, wider Middle East and adjacent growth markets.
The successful candidate will work within a lean, high performing global sales organisation and will be supported by Field Service Engineers, technical specialists and senior leadership. Sales activities include direct engagement with government end users, as well as coordination with regional distributors, system integrators and strategic partners.
The primary geographic focus of the role will be Saudi Arabia and the GCC region, with additional support across wider Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, Central Asia and India opportunities as required.
As part of a rapidly growing defence technology company operating in a fast evolving industry, the successful candidate will be expected to combine strategic business development with hands on execution, owning key opportunities from origination through to closure.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
Drive regional business development and sales activities across the Middle East and adjacent growth markets, with a strong focus on Saudi Arabia and GCC government customers Develop and maintain senior level relationships with military, law enforcement, homeland security and critical infrastructure stakeholders Lead the identification, qualification and progression of strategic sales opportunities through the full lifecycle, from early engagement to contract award Support and expand regional distributor, reseller and system integrator networks, ensuring alignment with company strategy Coordinate closely with internal engineering, operations and leadership teams to support customer requirements, demonstrations and project execution Lead preparation of proposals, tenders, demonstrations, trials and commercial negotiations Represent DroneShield at regional exhibitions, demonstrations and high level customer engagements Maintain accurate opportunity tracking, pipeline development and forecasting within CRM systems Contribute to regional strategy development, market intelligence and competitive positioning Assist with distributor and customer training on DroneShield systemsQualifications, Experience and Skills
5–15 years’ experience in sales, business development, or commercial leadership Strong network and established senior relationships within Middle East defence, security or government sectors, particularly within Saudi Arabia and GCC markets Proven track record of winning and delivering complex systems or technology programs with government or military customers in the region Significant experience in business development, account management or sales within defence, aerospace, security or related technology sectors Strong understanding of regional procurement environments, stakeholder structures and decision-making processes Experience working with distributors, system integrators and government procurement frameworks Demonstrated ability to operate independently, manage complex opportunities and close deals in a competitive environment Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills Willingness to travel regularly throughout the region and internationally when requiredDesirable Experience
