About This Position
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide children with a learning environment and varied experiences which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development toward the
overall goal of social competence
Responsible for a specific classroom of children; makes daily lesson plans and helps provide meaningful and appropriate experiences for the entire day using the principles of early childhood development; planning includes stories, music, science, mathematics, art, dramatic play, outdoor activities and a variety of other learning
experiences
Provide leadership and direction of teacher assistants and volunteers assigned to the classroom
Assist children in establishing good health and hygiene habits through daily brushing of teeth, washing hands and faces, combing hair, and assisting with toileting
Maintain children’s daily attendance records
Prepare teaching aids to supplement learning activities; keeps adequate inventory of supplies in the classroom for planned activities; cooperates with other staff in sharing supplies and equipment; becomes familiar with all equipment and its safe use in the campus
Help children develop good eating habits by sitting at the table with them during mealtimes; conversing with them; and encouraging good table manners; teachers are to eat the same food as the children and to serve their plates

Other Duties
Responsible to leave classroom in a condition to expedite the effort of the custodian; reports maintenance problems and needed supplies to Campus Director; assists with inventory
Drive and/or ride vehicles in the morning and afternoon as indicated
Responsible for the implementation of IEPs
Participate in staff meetings, career development and professional activities; keeps informed of current research and development in the child care profession; aware of component areas in the Head Start Performance Standards
Involve parents in the program by sharing with the parents in conferences (minimum twice yearly), during home visits (minimum of two yearly) and in other meetings with parents
Maintain current student’s individual records and other documents
Be prepared to supervise the actions of the campus in the absence of the Campus Director
Mentor Head Start Teaching Staff, including, but not limited to classroom observation, training and assessment of classroom activities
Participate on Interview Panel for Head Start Teaching Staff
Contribute to the team effort by completing other duties as indicated
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in early childhood education or related field required
Strong organizational skills required
Management/supervisory experience
Mentoring Skills
Computer literate
Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding childcare/education
Supervisory Responsibilities

Physical Demands
Sitting, standing, stooping and lifting in excess of 50 lbs
Computer use

Annual in-service
First Aid/CPR
