About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sensory Screening Specialist position will provide hearing and vision screenings to children ages 1-5 years old in the Phoenix South and Phoenix North First Things First Regional Partnership regions. Sensory Screening Specialists will have knowledge of typical and atypical child development milestones, especially related to sensory-related delays. Under direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, the position will be responsible for the recruitment, hearing and vision screening, education, referral, follow-up and documentation of 1,000 children in the Phoenix South and 1,500 children in the Phoenix North area.

SPECIALIZATIONS

Previous experience and certification for the following assessment models are highly desirable, but not required:

  • Current certification in OAE and PurTone Audiometry screening
  • Current certification in performing SPOT, PlusOptix, and LEA Symbols vision screening
  • Prior experience working with children 1-5 years old completing hearing and vision screenings
  • Expertise in working with children who are difficult to screen

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) in public health, child development, family studies, social work or related area of study, or experience equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree including completion of a 2 year +AA degree plus 2 years of experience or HSD/GED plus four (4) years of experience working directly with culturally & economically diverse populations of parents, infants, and children. Candidates who do not meet Bachelor’s Degree criteria are subject to the approval of the funder and must agree to a professional development plan upon hire.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have access to safe, reliable transportation with valid automobile insurance.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Complete CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire and maintain the certifications throughout employment.
  • Minimum of 20 hours per Fiscal Year of continuing education and competency building, including but not limited, to Relias Learning, Conference, Workshops, and/or Outside Training.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with infant & child development, parent-child attachment, possible behavioral health dynamics of caregivers, as well as the dynamics of child abuse & neglect.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with strength-based and family-centered provision of primary prevention services.
  • Able to identify individual/family strengths and planning/advocating around individual/family goals.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathic, patient, tactful).
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to promote clear understanding.
  • Be self-motivated and work independently, cohesively within team dynamics, and under direct supervision to effectively meet program requirements/objectives.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, keep appropriate records, and develop effective programmatic communications with supervisory guidance.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in cultural diversity, substance abuse, sexual abuse, family violence that may have an impact of child abuse and neglect on child development, required.
  • Demonstrate interest and ability to advocate with and on behalf of low-income, diverse families, required.
  • Previous experience in family support coordination or resource navigation services, preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) highly desirable (will consider other languages)
