About This Position

POSITION SUMMARY

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is seeking a full-time Geospatial Technician to support the Center for Applied Environmental & Geospatial Technology work on the Pennsylvania Mine Map Grant. Although the Mine Map Grant (MMG)will be the primary focus of this position, this position may also provide expertise on additional geo-environmental projects. This position will report to the Center’s Director and will interact directly with undergraduate student employees of the Center, as well as additional full-time staff. The Geospatial Technician I will work closely with the Center’s Director to ensure that milestones are being met on the MMG in order to provide valuable deliver able to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Additional project collaboration with university staff will also occur on other projects this position may assist with. The Technician I will be heavily involved in the creation of mosaic datasets, as well as the QA/QC process of student work, to ensure that a quality delivery able is provided to our clients. Critical thinking and problem solving of often complicated mapping scenarios is required, as many mapping projects will not have clear, determined outlines, but will rather depend on the development of datasets in iterations. In addition to their primary role in the Center for Applied Environmental & Geospatial Technology, the Technician will also be responsible for assisting with events for middle and high school students where the students are exploring geospatial and drone technologies.

WORK HOURS

The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. To accommodate the college's business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings. Employees may be required to work overtime.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geography, or related field, with extensive coursework in GIS/Geospatial Technology

• Minimum 3 years’ experience with ArcGIS software in a professional environment(1+ Years of ArcGIS Pro required)

• Familiarity with historic map collections–specifically underground mine maps

• Familiarity with historic mine terminology 2 01082018HR

• Experience creating and manipulating mosaic datasets

• Comfortablewithadynamicenvironmentthatsometimesrequiresindependentandrepetitive work and other times requires multi-tasking and working in a team environment

• Ability to create detailed geospatial data and maps

• Experience performing, or willingness to learn, measures of quality control in a GIS setting

• Ability to train and assist beginner-level GIS users

• Demonstratedabilitytointerpretanddocumentprojectrequirementswithexternalclientsand contribute to grant/project proposals

• Willingness to partake and facilitate client kick off and update meetings

• Proven ability to create and edit maps, apps, and dashboards using ArcGIS Online • Ability to obtain appropriate clearances to work with minors
