About This Position
Under the general direction of the Greenhouse Specialist: The Greenhouse Crew cares for plants in the greenhouse, plants and maintains annual and perennial beds on city properties and performs other maintenance activities as needed.
1. Maintain the Greenhouse: Regularly clean the greenhouse and maintain the plants.
2. Plant Urns and Annual Beds: Plant the containers downtown and the flower beds on all city properties.
3. Weed Annual and Perennial Beds: Maintain the flowerbeds and urns on city properties.
4. Clean Work Areas: Remove litter and debris from assigned areas. Clean bathrooms.
5. Seasonal Tasks: Assist with seasonal landscaping duties, such as pulling flowers, rototilling beds, raking, watering, fertilizing, etc.
6. Monitor Grounds: Report any damage to plantings or equipment and identify areas requiring additional care (e.g. watering, pest control).
7. Safety Compliance: Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure safe operations of machinery, driving, and proper handling of tools.
8. Collaborate with Team: Work with other crew members to ensure efficient operations and completion of tasks on time.
9. Public Interaction: Occasionally interact with the public, answering basic inquiries and ensuring positive experiences for citizens and visitors.
10. Adhere to Schedules: Follow daily and weekly schedules to ensure that parks and recreation areas are maintained consistently and on time. Be on time to work.
11. Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as needed such as assisting with park repairs, landscaping projects, setting up for events, or supporting other departments as directed by supervisors.
1. Must have a valid driver’s license and be 18 years of age or older.
2. Have the ability to operate power equipment.
3. Interpersonal skills necessary to work and communicate well with others.
4. Physical ability to lift/push/transport equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to periodically kneel/bend/stoop to accommodate different working positions.
Working Conditions
1. Work includes outside working conditions with frequent exposure to sun, wind, rain, and extreme temperatures.
2. Work includes exposure to fumes, dust, noise, moving objects, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
3. Work includes proximity to environmental, electrical, and equipment hazards.
