JOB SUMMARY
The Surgery Scheduler / OB Navigator is an experienced resource who can assist and support the patient with efficient scheduling, accurate documentation, timely authorizations, and a positive patient experience throughout the surgical process. This person will be responsible for ensuring patient compliance, patient satisfaction and referring provider satisfaction, as well as promoting superior customer service through effective and responsive communication methods. Surgery scheduling responsibilities will encompass more than one specialty service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Be a point of contact for patients
  • Scheduling of OB appointments, coordination of ultrasounds, scheduling inductions of labor, scheduling C-Sections, scheduling surgeries, scheduling post-partum and post-op care.
  • Obtaining all necessary records and ensuring records are sent out as needed for continuing care.
  • Ensure proper clinical review of all incoming OB referrals
  • Provide comprehensive documentation required for referrals of high risk OB patients
  • Keep close communication with outreach clinics to provide referral information and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
  • Work closely with providers and patients on care plans and follow-up care.
  • Assist patients, providers and case management with Plan of Safe Care policy.
  • Obtain patient insurance information needed and work closely with the financial advocate department to educate patients of their financial responsibility of their pregnancy or surgery journey. This includes follow up to ensure patients have adequate medical coverage or a payment plan in place. Must have understanding of insurance coverage.
  • Responsible for all surgery scheduling and post-op scheduling. Ensure that all necessary paperwork is obtained within the required time period and sent to proper departments.
  • Submitting and following up with prior authorization for procedure, contraception and care.
  • Assist with front desk duties as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Experience & Licensure

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required.
  • Medical terminology preferred but not required.
  • Central Registry, required.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both reading and writing.
  • Multi-line telephone knowledge.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Ability to operate designated equipment as specified included computer keyboarding.
  • Basic clerical training, including basic filing procedures (both numerically and alphabetically).
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Basic knowledge of medical record content and sequence.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal direction.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and / or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
