Now Hiring Mechanics - Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Maintenance, Repairs, and Refurbishment

FSM Group has several openings for both skilled and semi-skilled mechanically-minded individuals for our Atlanta Jackson Hartsfield International Airport equipment maintenance shop. If you enjoy working with your hands on and around heavy machinery in an aviation setting, this is the job for you!

FSM Group is a commercial aviation services provider, which means that in addition to fueling aircrafts, we have shops which work on vehicles and equipment that support the Atlanta Airport operation. Luggage tugs, catering trucks, fuel carts, diesel trucks, transport vehicles, tanker trucks, de-icing vehicles, and other ground support equipment all come through our shops for maintenance, repairs, refurbishment, and new paint jobs.

The daily routine of the GSE Shop and essential functions may include:

  • Oil changes
  • Coolant and fluid checks
  • Brake checks and tire changes
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Repairs and refurbs

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of mechanical experience of any kind (preferably auto mechanic, box truck, HVAC, refrigeration systems, etc.)
  • Mechanical mindset that enjoys problem-solving
  • General knowledge of carburetors, alternators, starter motors, batteries, hydraulics, small engines, radiators, and diesel engines
  • Experience working on Ground Support Equipment is preferred, but not required.
  • Electrical and diesel skills are preferred, but not required.
  • Mechanics are required to bring their own set of basic tools (wrenches, ratchets, socket sets, screwdrivers, power tools, Allen wrenches, and voltmeter). Specialty tools will be provided by the Company.
  • Class B CDL Driver's License is preferred but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • Reliable transportation;
  • Eligible to work in the United States;
  • Valid state driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record;
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and federal fingerprint background check.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Basic mathematical skills;
  • Demonstrated regular, predictable attendance at the airport location;
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to communicate in English while on the job with customers, coworkers, or supervisors who only speak English, in emergencies or other situations in which employees must speak a common language to promote safety;
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
  • Basic understanding of computer applications and data entries.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

This position requires sustained physical effort and consistent exposure to outdoor and potentially hazardous work environments. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Mobility and Access

  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders with 50+ steps and work at heights of 50 feet or more, including high, precarious places.
  • Must be able to get in and out of vehicles of varying sizes and heights.
  • Must be able to drive and operate vehicles and equipment of various sizes, including automated lifts up to 26 feet.

Lifting and Carrying

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds overhead.
  • Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds to waist level.
  • Must be able to shovel materials such as snow, sand, dirt, gravel, or rocks as needed.

Standing and Movement

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, climb, and balance for extended periods of time.
  • Perform repetitive physical movements, including bending at the waist and knees, and sustaining awkward or physically demanding positions.
  • Capable of climbing and standing on step ladders while performing overhead work, such as connecting fueling hoses.
  • Manual Dexterity
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grip, and operate tools, equipment, and controls.

Sensory Requirements

  • Hear and respond to verbal instructions, environmental sounds, and audible alarms.
  • Maintain the following vision capabilities:

o Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)o Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)o Color vision (identify and distinguish between colors)o Peripheral vision (see up/down and side-to-side while focused on a central point)o Depth perception (assess distance and spatial relationships)o Ability to adjust focus (sharpen vision at various distances)

Environmental and Working Conditions

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Tolerate frequent exposure to:

o Moderate to high noise levels (with use of appropriate hearing protection)

o Fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous substances, materials, or waste

  • Work near or around:

o Moving mechanical parts

o High-voltage equipment

o Hydraulic and pneumatic systems operating under high pressure

  • Work in elevated or precarious positions, such as on lifts, ladders, or elevated platforms.
