Job Description
Join Whitworth University and serve as an Assistant Swim Coach, where you'll play a pivotal role in mentoring and inspiring student-athletes to excel in both their athletic and personal growth journeys. As a key member of our coaching staff, you'll support the development of our men's and women's swim teams, contributing to recruiting efforts, refining individual athlete skills, and strategically planning practices.
Your responsibilities will extend to coordinating travel, providing mentorship, overseeing meet setups, and assisting with various administrative tasks. Full-time (1.0 FTE) | 12 months | 40 hours per week

Swim Coaching | 60%
- Individual athlete development: skill, speed, strength training, and conditioning.
- Commit time, energy, and thought into mentoring and investing in the lives of the student-athletes in the program.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of practices.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes.
- Assist in the organization and administration of team travel.
- Assist in the organization and administration of home meets.
- Assist with Athletic Department projects and events.
- Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
- A bachelor's degree is required and Whitworth considers candidates with a wide range of educational backgrounds. We value the skills and knowledge candidates bring to Whitworth, regardless of the paths they have taken to acquire them.
- Experience and track record of building positive relationships with athletes, parents, and fellow coaches, while cultivating a supportive and inclusive team environment.
- Proven experience and passion for coaching swimming and cultivating student-athletes' potential.
- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
- A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ethical understanding of all NCAA and NWC rules and regulations.
- Ability to identify and build relationships with recruits and families.
- Ability to assist the head coach in program development, technique refinement, and team cohesion.
- Leadership skills to effectively identify and resolve problems while maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills, adept at fostering positive relationships with student-athletes, colleagues, and athletic stakeholders.
- Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity.
- Participation in intercollegiate swimming.
- Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level.
