The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of EHS programs across the company's operations. This position reports to the Health & Safety Manager and will work closely with the Environmental Manager as well as operations, infrastructure, and engineering teams across the company to promote a safe workplace, assist with compliance activities, maintain documentation, and support employees and supervisors across EHS initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Support company EHS policies, procedures, and programs including: electrical safety, confined spaces, JHAs, lone working, SPCC, HazCom, and refrigerants, among others.
- Identify basic hazards and communicate findings to the Health & Safety Manager and site leadership.
- Support and track EHS corrective actions to completion.
- Assist with incident documentation and investigations.
- Update and maintain data for logs, training records, incidents, inspections, and other EHS documentation as assigned.
- Support EHS monthly reporting.
- Assist with PPE inventories and compliance monitoring.
- Prepare employee communications such as toolbox talks and safety alerts.
- Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safe work planning initiatives.
- Reinforce a culture of safety throughout the company.
- Support audit preparation and follow-up activities.
- Perform other EHS-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 1-3 years of professional experience supporting EHS management systems and programs.
- Safety certification(s) such as ASP, GSP, OSHA 10-hour, NFPA 70E, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to track and advance a high volume of concurrent initiatives without losing sight of priorities.
- Knowledge of EHS management systems and programs.
- Proficiency with databases and data management tools such as MS Office suite including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders across operations, engineering, procurement, and vendor teams.
- Ability to work remotely and autonomously while maintaining clear communication and follow-through across a distributed team.
- Self-directed and organized, with the ability to prioritize independently across a broad and varied scope of work.
