Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Radiology Director and the Staff Radiologist. Performs a variety of Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures including abdominal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans, small parts, and vascular scans. utilizing all aspects of diagnostic ultrasound equipment.
Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. Requires completion of an accredited program in Medical Sonography. Requires registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). May require a state license to practice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Obtains appropriate medical history before patient examination.
- Prepares patients for their examinations.
- Performs appropriate diagnostic procedures as ordered.
- Assists radiologist when performing special procedures.
- Maintains cleanliness of all Ultrasound equipment and rooms.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies in weekly assigned room.
- Produce images of diagnostic quality.
- Performs appropriate modality procedures per Ultrasound protocol. Performs IV as needed
- Obtains and verifies appropriate physician order.
- Performs exams per department routine.
- Ensures that expenditures for job related activities are within budgetary constraints.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and patient care and relations information.
- Actively participates in Customer/ Guest Relations and Mandatory Education programs.
- Review patient records for information needed for procedures (i.e. labs, previous exams etc.)
- Utilizes HIS and ED computer charting systems to obtain and chart pertinent information for imaging and transportation purposes.
- Performs PACS function and burns CDs.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Education, Training, Experience:
- Education: High school diploma with graduation from a School of Radiology Technology or a Credentialed Ultrasound Imaging Program.
- Licensure: Certified/ licensed by American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT Ultrasound). Candidate must be registered at time of hire with a national accrediting body in the practice of Diagnostic Ultrasound.
- Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
- Experience: Candidate must hold national registry at time of hire.
- Knowledge of Abdominal, OB/GYN, Small Parts, and Vascular procedures is preferred.
