This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Audio Engineer (Speech / TTS Audio Specialist) – French based in Canada.

This contract role offers the opportunity to contribute your audio expertise to the development of French-language speech and text-to-speech AI systems. You will edit, process, and quality-check French voice recordings used in machine learning and speech technology workflows. Your work will ensure recordings meet demanding technical standards for clarity, consistency, and training readiness. You will apply advanced audio-cleanup techniques while identifying subtle artifacts and quality issues that could affect model performance. Strong French listening intuition will also be essential for evaluating pronunciation, fluency, and naturalness. Working remotely and collaboratively, you will help improve the quality of speech datasets and contribute to the development of more natural and reliable voice AI.

Accountabilities:
  • Edit and process French voice recordings for use in text-to-speech (TTS), speech recognition, and other speech AI systems.
  • Perform detailed audio cleanup, including silence trimming, breath reduction, de-clicking, de-essing, and noise reduction.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality assurance checks for clipping, distortion, background noise, unwanted artifacts, and loudness consistency.
  • Ensure processed recordings meet strict technical specifications and quality standards required for machine learning training pipelines.
  • Evaluate French recordings for pronunciation accuracy, fluency, naturalness, pacing, and other language-specific speech characteristics.
  • Identify and correct technical inconsistencies and audio defects that could negatively affect dataset or model quality.
  • Collaborate with teams working on French speech datasets, voice recordings, and AI model training workflows.
  • Manage and review high-volume audio files while maintaining consistent quality across datasets and assignments.
Requirements:
  • Native or near-native French proficiency, with highly developed listening skills and strong intuition for French pronunciation and speech nuances.
  • Demonstrated experience editing speech, voice, or dialogue recordings.
  • Strong understanding of professional speech-audio quality standards and technical requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with professional audio tools such as iZotope RX and Pro Tools.
  • Ability to identify, diagnose, and correct audio artifacts, inconsistencies, noise, distortion, and other technical defects.
  • Experience working with high-volume audio datasets or large-scale recording projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality across repetitive or high-volume workflows.
  • Experience with TTS vendors or platforms is preferred.
  • Previous involvement in speech machine learning, voice AI, dataset creation, or annotation workflows is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with audio quality-assurance pipelines and processes is preferred.
  • Experience directing or editing recordings involving French-speaking voice talent is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive contract compensation of $50 per hour.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Flexible opportunity to contribute within a collaborative, distributed team.
  • Hands-on involvement in speech AI, TTS, and machine learning projects.
  • Opportunity to apply specialized French-language and audio-engineering expertise to emerging AI technologies.
  • Exposure to large-scale speech datasets and modern AI model-training workflows.
  • Meaningful contribution to improving the quality, naturalness, and reliability of French-language voice AI.
