Job Description
Job Summary/Objective:
Provides professional allergy testing care to patients, coordinates insurance verification, scheduling, and performs related job functions for outpatient procedures to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical office operations.
Essential Job Functions:
• Performs allergy testing and document results accurately.
• Orders, mixes and maintains current supply of allergen extract and immunotherapy vials in accordance with practice protocols and regulatory standards.
• Complies with USP 797 Regulations.
• Checks exam room equipment for functionality.
• Administers allergy immunotherapy safely and monitors patients after.
• Ensures emergency medications and protocols (e.g., epinephrine) are readily available and followed in case of adverse reactions.
• Communicates physician instructions to patients clearly and documents appropriately.
• Reviews encounter forms and lab requisitions to ensure appropriate procedures and diagnosis coding are completed for each patient.
• Completes lab and ancillary documentation procedures.
• Maintains appropriate medical record documentation for each patient visit.
• Completes insurance verification and schedules patients for testing.
• Assists with retrieval of patient information from electronic data systems or other sources as needed.
• Notifies patients of physician orders when appropriate.
• Receives and responds to telephone calls and, if applicable, forwards to the appropriate person.
• Triages and responds to patient inquiries via phone or in person, escalating clinical questions as appropriate.
• Informs patients of need/requirements, i.e. insurance cards, identification, accident information
• Notifies patients when co-payments and deductibles are required for surgery or office procedures.
• Collaborates with physicians and staff to support allergy treatment plans and practice-wide workflows.
• Adheres to infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory guidelines.
• Ensures exam rooms and equipment are clean, stocked, and functioning.
• Participates in inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining allergen storage logs.
• Provides education to patients regarding allergy testing, immunotherapy process, and post-injection expectations.
• Supports additional clinical or administrative departments as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position, however due to department needs this can vary.
Required Education and Experience
1. High School graduate or equivalent
2. One year of related experience
