Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical & Electrical Installer to join our vehicle upfitting and installation team. This position is responsible for installing, modifying, testing, and commissioning mechanical and electrical systems on commercial trucks, vans, and specialty vehicles. The successful candidate will work with a variety of vehicle platforms and equipment, ensuring all installations meet quality, safety, and customer specifications.
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, electrical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and installation instructions.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Installation- Install vehicle equipment and components including shelving, storage systems, partitions, ladder racks, liftgates, cranes, compressors, hydraulic systems, pumps, PTO-driven equipment, and other aftermarket accessories.
- Perform drilling, cutting, fabrication, mounting, and assembly of mechanical components on trucks and vans.
- Install and secure equipment according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
- Modify vehicle structures when required while maintaining vehicle integrity and compliance standards.
- Inspect completed installations to verify fit, function, and quality.
- Install vehicle electrical systems including wiring harnesses, control panels, lighting systems, warning devices, inverters, battery systems, cameras, telematics, and auxiliary power equipment.
- Route, terminate, and secure electrical wiring and cabling in accordance with industry standards.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues during installation and testing.
- Perform electrical testing using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
- Configure and verify proper operation of installed electrical systems.
- Conduct functional testing of installed mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve installation-related issues prior to final delivery.
- Verify compliance with customer requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Complete final inspections and quality control documentation.
- Support vehicle commissioning and customer acceptance processes.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure all installations comply with applicable vehicle, electrical, and industry regulations.
- Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and equipment.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Report safety concerns, quality issues, or equipment deficiencies promptly.
- Accurately complete installation records, work orders, inspection reports, and time tracking documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and service teams to resolve technical issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced installers when required.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical assembly, vehicle upfitting, automotive, truck equipment installation, electrical installation, or related technical field.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and installation instructions.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Experience installing equipment on commercial trucks, utility vehicles, service bodies, or fleet vans.
- Knowledge of 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems.
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or PTO-driven systems.
- Welding, fabrication, or metalworking experience.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), electrical, or trade certifications.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one.

- Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet production schedules.
- Potential local travel for installations, service work, or customer support as needed.
