JOB DESCRIPTION

Child Care Supervisor

I. JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • CPR certified within 30 days of starting.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to move throughout the childcare facility freely and quickly for the safety of the children.
  • Physical exertion requirements include bending, stretching, reaching, possibly picking up heavy children, and cleaning duties.
  • Must be comfortable sitting on the floor and playing with children.
  • Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly and efficiently in both the club’s and member’s best interest.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (positive and effective) with co-workers, members, and children.
  • Successfully complete Mountainside training program within 30 days of starting in position.
  • Knowledge of safety issues involving children and the care of children.
  • Consistently and accurately count and log daily money.
  • Record-keeping skills for staff, members, and children.
  • Knowledge of child developmental abilities for appropriate activities, redirection, and requests.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Mountainside Fitness’s organizational history and the childcare department’s function and duties.
  • Desire to promote Mountainside Fitness and its policies.
  • Ability to guide, instruct, and motivate new and existing department team members.
  • Demonstrate willingness to seek additional assignments when time permits and continue to learn and grow as an employee and potentially a department manager.
  • Demonstrate competence in the operation of basic office equipment: phone, computer, copy machine, etc.
  • Must be able to exemplify all duties and responsibilities required of the Childcare Attendant staff.
  • Demonstrate the ability to tactfully delegate tasks to co-workers.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, working opposite the Department Manager and covering in emergencies.

II. JOB-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Act as Supervisor over all childcare staff.
  • Handle all member and staff concerns in a polite, calm, consistent, and firm manner; relay concerns to the Department Manager as soon as possible.
  • Schedule and monitor childcare staff breaks.
  • Maintain adequate coverage at all times to meet budget and ratio demands (scheduling shifts, finding substitutes, and covering shifts if necessary) when the Department Manager is unavailable.
  • Consistently and accurately execute all job-related responsibilities and duties of the childcare staff.
  • Monitor all activities of department staff while on duty and redirect inappropriate behavior.
  • Report and make recommendations on outstanding accomplishments as well as deficiencies with staff directly to the Department Manager.
  • Provide continual feedback, encouragement, explanation, and instruction to current staff to help minimize errors.
  • Maintain childcare efficiency by delegating tasks, organizing supplies and equipment, and addressing staff and member-related issues immediately.
  • Maintain stock of forms: waivers, emergency info, temporary guardianship, childcare EFT, etc.
  • Ensure the childcare room is cleaned and disinfected while monitoring cleaning sheets for completion and fair staff participation.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Monitor cash and payment intake throughout each shift and maintain adequate change when the Department Manager is unavailable.
  • Inspect toys and play equipment on a regular basis for broken parts and safety concerns.
  • Decorate the childcare room for holiday festivities in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Address any building structural problems (leaks, HVAC issues, etc.) when the Department Manager is unavailable.
  • Enforce all policies and responsibilities of department staff and members.
  • Assist the Department Manager with new employee training.
  • Assist the Department Manager with promoting and running children’s programs.
  • Maintain communication with the Department Manager either verbally or in writing on a weekly basis.
  • Keep member information updated (method of payment and child’s information) and ensure that all children are checked in and out properly.
  • Treat all members, their children, and other staff with respect and consideration at all times.

  • Hours of the position may change as needed with or without advance notice.
  • Progressive disciplinary procedures — at the discretion of the Department Manager — may include employee counseling, verbal warnings, written warnings, probation, and termination, and may not necessarily be used in any order.
