Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) is seeking a student-centered, collaborative, and dynamic Temporary Middle School Counselor to serve our grades 6-8 community in Redmond, Oregon. The position will be available mid-August through early December. RPA operates on an innovative, proficiency-based educational model where student choice, flexibility, and individualized growth are core values.
The temporary school counselor will stand in to provide continuity of care, delivering short-term academic, social-emotional, and crisis intervention support. Requirements:Essential Duties & Responsibilities1. Social-Emotional & Crisis Counseling
- Individual & Group Counseling: Provide targeted, short-term individual counseling and responsive small-group interventions focusing on self-esteem, peer relationships, emotional regulation, and anxiety management.
- Crisis Intervention: Deliver immediate support and de-escalation for students experiencing mental health crises, behavioral challenges, or difficult family dynamics.
- Community Referrals: Identify high-risk students and coordinate seamlessly with outside local mental health providers and social services to secure long-term care.
2. Academic Guidance & Transition Support
- Proficiency-Based Guidance: Assist middle school students with navigating their personal learning paths, managing academic workloads, and developing strong organizational habits aligned with RPA’s unique grading model.
- High School Readiness: Introduce 8th-grade students to high school graduation pathways, encouraging proactive academic choices.
- Student Onboarding: Work alongside school registrars and leadership to help new students smoothly transition into the RPA middle school community.
3. Collaboration & Systems Support
- Staff Consultation: Partner with teachers, learning specialists, and administrators to design classroom behavior plans and accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Family Engagement: Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, offering strategies to support student well-being at home.
- Data & Compliance: Maintain confidential, accurate student counseling notes and documentation in absolute alignment with FERPA guidelines and Oregon school counseling frameworks.
