2.5% OF BASE PAY FOR MAINTAINING a VALID CALIFORNIA CLASS A or B DRIVER'S LICENSE.

The Nevada County Transit division is looking for TWO safety conscious individuals who are excited to provide vital transportation services to our county residents! We are looking for TWO drivers with a positive outlook and the following knowledge and skills.

There is one Full-Time and one Part-Time position currently available.

Applicable to Both Positions

Knowledge of:

  • Safe, defensive driving practices
  • California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in public transportation
  • Basic maintenance of transit vehicles and related equipment
  • California Commercial Driver Handbook
Skill in:
  • Operating a transit vehicle safely
  • Maintaining order among passengers on a bus
  • Good customer service skills
  • Understanding and implementing verbal and written instructions
  • Proper use of two-way radio system
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those in the course of work

Applicable to Only the Part-Time Position

The candidate will typically be scheduled to cover driving shifts between Tuesday-Friday of each week and will be expected to work a full 8-hour shift on Saturdays dedicated to sanitation of the fleet.

Recruitment incentives of up to $5K paid over a 1-year period (either new or lateral hires). The recruitment incentive is paid in two parts, half upon hire and the remainder paid upon completion of a 12-month probation period.

  • Completion of twelfth grade or receipt of G.E.D.
  • Minimum of six months of driving experience in one or more of the following: public transit, a school district transit operation, or driving a commercial vehicle.
Possession of the following documents at time of application.
  • Passenger Endorsement Certificate permitting the licensee to operate public transit vehicles equipped with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,001 pounds or more.
  • California Class A or B Vehicle Operator’s License
  • Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate/DL-51
  • Vehicle Transit Training (VTT) Certificate required within three months of hire
  • Passenger transit driving experience preferred
  • Possession of current and valid Certification for Operation of a School Bus is highly desirable
  • Possession of current and valid Certification for the operation of airbrakes is beneficial, but not required.
