Position Summary

The Data Center Transition Project Manager supports the successful planning, execution, tracking, and stabilization of new data center operations accounts, site mobilizations, expansions, and operational readiness projects. The role supports the Data Center Account Operations Director and acts as a key coordination point across internal departments, client stakeholders, vendors, and site leadership. This position owns the transition schedule, deliverable tracking, status reporting, risk escalation, meeting cadence, and readiness documentation needed to move an account from award or mobilization through go-live and steady-state handover. The ideal candidate combines practical data center operations experience with strong project management discipline, clear communication, and the ability to organize multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

Transition Planning & Execution

  • Support the Account Operations Director in planning and executing transitions from pre-mobilization through operational handover.
  • Develop and maintain transition project plans covering scope, schedule, resources, milestones, dependencies, risks, action items, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate transition activities across operations, HR, recruiting, finance, safety, training, procurement, engineering, compliance, vendors, and client stakeholders.
  • Maintain the transition checklist so technical, operational, safety, staffing, training, documentation, and handoff requirements are assigned, tracked, and completed.
  • Support go-live planning, readiness reviews, formal handover, transition closeout, and lessons learned.

Scheduling, Tracking & Reporting

  • Own day-to-day tracking of deliverables, due dates, dependencies, open issues, decisions, and required leadership actions.
  • Prepare project status reports, dashboards, executive summaries, meeting materials, and client-facing updates.
  • Maintain the milestone tracker, risk register, issue log, action item tracker, readiness checklist, and transition calendar.
  • Document meeting notes, decisions, risks, blockers, and follow-up actions with clear ownership and due dates.
  • Provide timely visibility to leadership on project health, upcoming milestones, schedule risks, and required decisions.

Operational Readiness Coordination

  • Track readiness for staffing, onboarding, training, site access, vendor mobilization, safety requirements, CMMS setup, reporting, and procedure development.
  • Support collection and validation of asset inventories, O&M manuals, as-builts, commissioning reports, test scripts, escalation paths, contact lists, and maintenance data.
  • Track development and readiness of site-specific SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, runbooks, training materials, and operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with site leadership and subject matter experts to identify operational gaps that could affect go-live readiness.
  • Support knowledge transfer from construction teams, incumbent providers, vendors, or client operations teams.

Client, Stakeholder & Governance Support

  • Serve as a communication link between the transition team, Account Operations Director, site leaders, client representatives, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Facilitate transition meetings, workstream updates, stand-ups, readiness reviews, and follow-up discussions.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders; simplify complex issues into actionable decisions.
  • Escalate risks early and provide practical options for resolution.
  • Support governance routines, audit readiness, quality reviews, executive reviews, and continuous improvement of playbooks and templates.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data center operations, critical facilities, building engineering, facilities maintenance, project coordination, transition management, or related mission-critical environments.
  • Prior experience as a data center building engineer, critical facilities technician, operations engineer, facilities engineer, project coordinator, or similar role strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management, scheduling, tracking, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines, priorities, stakeholders, and dependencies at the same time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including status reports, meeting notes, trackers, dashboards, and executive updates.
  • Working knowledge of data center critical infrastructure systems, including electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling systems, controls/BMS, fire/life safety, and maintenance processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations leaders, technicians, clients, vendors, HR, finance, safety, engineering, procurement, and executives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Smartsheet, SharePoint, MS Project, Gantt charts, and action trackers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center transitions, account startups, facility takeovers, commissioning handoffs, migrations, retrofits, expansions, or operational readiness programs.
  • CMMS platforms, PM programs, asset hierarchy, work order processes, maintenance schedules, and operational reporting.
  • SOP/MOP/EOP, runbook, training, or document control support.
  • Risk registers, action logs, RACI matrices, dashboards, readiness checklists, and transition playbooks.
  • Commissioning, integrated systems testing, acceptance criteria, as-builts, O&M manuals, and vendor closeout documents.
  • PMP coursework/certification, OSHA, NFPA 70E, technical certifications, or equivalent practical experience.
