Job Description
SUMMARY: This is a part-time position that will work 20 hours per week with fewer hours in the summer as needed. Due to the student-facing nature of the role and the cyclical volume of campus activity, the position may be actively scheduled during periods when the majority of students are on campus. The selected candidate can expect consistent annual reappointment, contingent upon institutional needs and satisfactory performance.
This position reports to the Director of Student Inclusive Excellence at Queens University of Charlotte. Student Inclusive Excellence represents the various areas that focus on The VP/DOS serves as a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team and in partnership with administrative leadership, works to transform the student experience.
The Community & Civic Engagement Program Director serves as the main contact for all community service opportunities at Queens, the facilitator of the Sed Min cohort program, and the advisor for veteran support services. The position will work collaboratively with campus partners to create a cohesive program model with opportunities to support the universities motto “not to be served, but to serve”. This position requires good judgment, initiative and problem-solving, keen attention to detail, and project management/organizational skills.
This position is not exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include
- Manage, coordinate and oversee the successful recruiting, program development, and implementation of the Sed Min Scholars program.
- Coordinates volunteer opportunities, service-learning opportunities, and civic engagement events for the university by building and maintaining successful partnerships with local nonprofits and community organizations.
- Collaborate with various campus partners to support initiatives, track participation, and assess impact.
- Coordinate various campus events and programs.
- Provide oversight to all veteran services including orientation and transition support
- Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for student veterans and military-affiliated students.
- Provide and support various civic engagement opportunities and programs, including supervision of the Civic Engagement Fellows.
- Ensure good stewardship of university resources. Responsible for completing all necessary business practices to ensure appropriate use of university resources.
- Attend and support events and programs of the Inclusive Excellence office as needed.
- Work in collaboration with Elon partners as needed for various programs and initiatives.
Non-Essential Duties
- Represent the division on various committees as needed.
- Special projects and other duties may be assigned to achieve department and/or university goals.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required
- Preferred two years of experience working with non-profit organizations.
- Understanding of systems or processes to track community service participation.
- Understanding or experience with veteran needs and support services.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint (experience with web design a plus)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to the University’s inclusive mission
- Proven attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness
- Excellent organization and follow-up / follow-through skills to ensure completion of assignments within established timeframes
- Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise respect, considerable tact and sensitivity in interactions with people who are diverse in their academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds
- Professional and service-oriented attitude
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze components and arrive at a logical course of action while knowing when to ask for assistance or direction
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to effectively prioritize assignments to meet given deadlines
- Must enjoy working with college-aged students
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
