Job Summary
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine is a strong, multidisciplinary team of more than 908 people dedicated to advancing Kentucky health care together. Our department encompasses 334 faculty members, 157 staff members, 203 Advanced Practice Providers and 214 learners.

Each year, providers in the department care for patients across 14 clinical divisions. The department currently has 214 residents and fellows across three accredited programs, while also contributing to the education of medical students and graduate trainees.

Internal Medicine faculty secure over $35 million in grant funding annually to pursue cutting-edge research and discoveries, supporting projects in all internal medicine subspecialties. The department has published 287 peer-reviewed articles in the past year and maintains more than 50 active clinical trials and 240 active grants and contracts. The Department of Medicine has 211 faculty who are actively involved in research activities and supervise biomedical learners, including PhD and master’s students, to gain in-depth experience in high-impact research labs.

The Division of Nephrology, Bone and Mineral Metabolism at the University of Kentucky seeks a clinically focused and academically motivated internist (MD/DO) to join a multidisciplinary Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic. This collaborative program provides comprehensive bone health care in partnership with Orthopedics, Fracture Liaison Services, Women’s Bone Health, Geriatrics, Radiology, and Pediatric subspecialties.

The successful candidate will deliver inpatient and outpatient care for a broad spectrum of metabolic bone and mineral disorders, including osteoporosis, fracture management, CKD-related bone disease, parathyroid disorders, and rare bone conditions. Responsibilities include interpretation of bone density imaging (DXA, TBS, VFA), participation in consult services, and coordination of interdisciplinary care.

This position offers robust opportunities for teaching, mentorship, and academic development. Faculty are expected to engage in trainee education, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities, with protected time and research opportunities aligned with individual interests.

Qualifications:
  • Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine (Med-Peds welcome)
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Kentucky
  • Interest in metabolic bone disease; prior experience preferred but not required
  • ISCD certification (or willingness to obtain within 6–12 months)
