Project Manager, Power Delivery - Substation

Overview

We are seeking a results-driven and collaborative Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of Substation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and in alignment with scope and quality expectations. You'll act as the central point of contact between clients, engineering teams, and internal departments driving progress, maintaining visibility, and ensuring all project objectives are achieved. This role also supports business development, strategic account growth, and continuous improvement, while working in close partnership with engineering and functional leaders.

What you will do:

Project Planning & Startup

  • Lead the preparation of project plans and proposals in response to RFPs.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates based on man-hours and defined scope, in coordination with technical leads.
  • Organize internal and external kickoff meetings, define project communication protocols, and establish documentation templates.
  • Ensure project milestones, deliverables, and timelines are clearly defined and agreed upon.

Execution & Oversight

  • Monitor project progress and status against scope, schedule, and budget baselines.
  • Track milestone completion such as 30%, 60%, 90% submittals, IFR, IFC, and as-builts, and ensure timely submissions.
  • Submit and manage intermediate and final invoices; follow up to maintain positive project cash flow.
  • Support the technical team by addressing roadblocks and coordinating responses to changes or challengeswhile leaving day-to-day task management to team leads.
  • Develop Estimate to complete projects to ensure team resources stay aligned with the available budget
  • Enter and update % complete tracking and ensure earned value/CPI project data remains current across tools and systems.

Risk & Change Management

  • Identify project risks and opportunities through team input and experience.
  • Develop response strategies and monitor at-risk areas throughout execution.
  • Manage scope changes and initiate Project Change Requests (PCRs), securing necessary approvals before implementation.
  • Track project cost performance and implement corrective actions as needed to meet targets.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison for clients on schedule, scope, financial, and quality-related matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders through regular check-ins, presentations, and transparent communication.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, conferences, and other industry events to support ongoing business development and promote company capabilities.

Team Collaboration & Resource Coordination

  • Optimize use of shared internal resources across multiple projects under your management, in collaboration with department leads.
  • Work with technical leads to align resource needs, rather than directly reassigning individual team members.
  • Facilitate onboarding for both Agbara staff into new clients/projects to ensure smooth integration.
  • Provide constructive feedback to project contributors based on overall project performance.

Project Closeout & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
  • Archive tools, templates, and solutions developed during the project for future reuse.
  • Identify and support the implementation of technologies or processes that improve project tracking and execution efficiency.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience managing substation engineering projects, preferably in the utilities, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Primavera).
  • PMP or similar certification is a plus.
