Description
The Princeton Writing Program invites applications for a part-time (50%) Lecturer to teach topic-based, multidisciplinary Writing Seminars to first-year students. The Writing Seminars are designed to help students learn how to frame compelling questions and problems, position an argument within a scholarly conversation, and substantiate claims using a variety of source materials. Every first-year student completes a Writing Seminar to fulfill the University writing requirement, building transferable skills which serve as a foundation for their ongoing development as critical thinkers, researchers, and writers across the disciplines.
We welcome applications from candidates with a strong interest in writing pedagogy and from all fields of study in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering. College-level teaching experience and the Ph.D. are expected. Priority will be given to candidates with recent teaching experience in the Princeton Writing Program. The expected teaching load is one Writing Seminar per term. Additional teaching opportunities may become available, but the teaching load would not exceed two Writing Seminars per term (full time). As part of this teaching-intensive program, faculty benefit from regular pedagogy workshops and professional development opportunities. Lecturers are responsible for developing syllabi in accord with established guidelines.
This limited appointment is expected to run August 1, 2026, until July 1, 2027.
New faculty without previous experience teaching in the Princeton Writing Program must attend four days of training workshops in July and be accessible by email and Zoom to develop their Writing Seminars in consultation with Writing Program directors. Faculty development meetings are required throughout the academic year, including four full days of follow-up workshops for new faculty from August 11-14, 2026, and a full faculty retreat on August 26.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be strong and reflective academic writers, have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching and mentoring, and have carefully considered the role of writing in teaching their courses. The Ph.D. is expected.
