Job Description

Position Summary

The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management services for patients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults as appropriate to the provider's training and scope of practice. The Psychiatrist works collaboratively with primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, nursing staff, families, caregivers, schools, and community partners to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities and Duties

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments for patients across the lifespan.
  • Diagnoses and treat mental, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and substance use disorders.
  • Provide psychiatric services for children, adolescents, adults, and families as appropriate.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications based on evidence-based practices.
  • Evaluate developmental, behavioral, emotional, and social functioning in pediatric and adolescent populations.
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, schools, and community agencies to support treatment goals when appropriate and authorized.
  • Assess patients for risk of harm to self or others and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Provide crisis intervention, psychiatric consultation, and care coordination services.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record.

Integrated Care Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to support whole-person care.
  • Participate in case conferences and care coordination meetings.
  • Consult with medical providers regarding behavioral health concerns impacting physical health outcomes.
  • Support initiatives related to population health, quality improvement, and patient engagement.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, HRSA, FTCA, HIPAA, and organizational requirements.
  • Complete documentation, coding, and billing requirements accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education programs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing behavioral health policies and procedures as requested.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, treatment modalities, and psychopharmacology.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing behavioral health services.
  • Understanding of integrated behavioral health and primary care models.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage complex psychiatric conditions.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse patient populations.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Education

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia/ South Carolina (or ability to obtain prior to hire).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
  • Current DEA registration and authority to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe.

Experience

  • Experience providing psychiatric services to children and adolescents preferred.
  • Experience working with underserved populations, community mental health programs, integrated care settings, or federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with schools, community resources, and family support systems preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent use of computers and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

  • Clinical and office-based healthcare environment.
  • Frequent interaction with patients experiencing mental health crises and behavioral health challenges.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and other healthcare-related hazards.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
  • May require occasional travel between clinic locations.
