Miami Children's Museum is looking for an experienced Carpenter to help build, maintain, and repair the interactive exhibits that inspire children and families every day.
This is much more than a traditional carpentry position. You'll be part of a creative team responsible for fabricating engaging museum exhibits, maintaining interactive experiences, and ensuring our galleries remain safe, functional, and visually impressive. What You'll Do
- Fabricating museum exhibits using a variety of materials, woodworking techniques, and power tools.
- Repairing and maintaining interactive exhibit components to ensure they remain safe, functional, and visitor-ready.
- Troubleshooting maintenance issues and recommending design or material improvements when needed.
- Assisting with the construction and installation of new exhibits and exhibit enhancements.
- Performing finish carpentry and detailed fabrication work.
- Maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, and building materials while ordering supplies as needed.
- Assisting with the installation and breakdown of traveling exhibits, special events, and off-site museum projects.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workshop while following all safety procedures.
- Occasionally traveling to install the Museum's traveling exhibits at children's museums across the country.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 5 years of professional carpentry experience.
- Strong carpentry and woodworking skills.
- Experience using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment, including table saws, circular saws, routers, pneumatic tools, and related equipment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment.
- Experience with electronics or exhibit fabrication is a plus.
