The support includes in-depth participation in the submarine's Key Milestone Events (Motor Module, AC Light Off, Float-Off, Steaming, Reactor Compartment Closeout, Initial Criticality), Ship Certifications and Sea Trials.

Specifically, the individual will work as part of the Engineering/Operations group as a Joint Test Group (JTG) member in the management of the Hull Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) test program. The individual will work as part of a group of engineers engaged in the issuance, updating and review of new construction contractually required tests in support of Electric Boat's New Construction test program between EB and Newport News Shipyard (NNS).

This department, D461, operates in a collaborative, dynamic and team oriented manner, interfacing with Operations, Waterfront Engineering, Design, Quality, Program Office, and Ship’s Management to execute a successful HM&E test program. In addition, interaction with the United States Navy (USN) customer is typical, including the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SSGR), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and submarine crews.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Evaluating trade work performed to determine necessary retesting for system / component recertification, issuance of HM&E test procedures, configuration control of HM&E test procedures, reviewing of HM&E and Non-Propulsion Electronic System (NPES) test procedures completed by trades.

Additionally, the individual is responsible for providing assistance to the D272 CTE (Chief Test Engineer) in identifying retest requirements to support the various planned projects, identifying any necessary at-sea or post deep dive tests and supporting Re-Entry Control (REC) closeout for Ship Certification.

This individual may be expected to ride Sea Trials in support of the At-Sea test program. This position works directly with Electric Boat shipyard management, operations, engineering and quality personnel along with representatives of ship's force, SUPSHIP Groton and NAVSEA.
