Description:

The Patient Care Specialist (PCS) plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the residential program and ensuring the safety, structure, and well-being of clients in recovery. This position involves direct client interaction, monitoring behavior and activities, assisting with daily living needs, supporting therapeutic programming, and maintaining a positive and recovery-oriented environment. Patient Care Specialists help clients develop independent living skills and reinforce treatment goals under the supervision of clinical and administrative staff.

Key Responsibilities

1. Client Supervision & Support
  • Provide continuous supervision and support to residential clients to ensure a safe, structured, and respectful environment.
  • Monitor client movement throughout the facility including dorms, common areas, meals, and scheduled activities.
  • Reinforce program expectations, house rules, curfews, and daily schedules.
  • Encourage accountability, life skills development, and participation in treatment programming.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate trauma-informed interactions with all clients.
2. Residential Operations & Daily Activities
  • Assist with daily residential operations including client orientation, room assignments, and facility routines.
  • Support the coordination of meals, medication line movement, group attendance, and recreational activities.
  • Monitor dorm areas and common spaces to ensure cleanliness, organization, and appropriate client conduct.
  • Assist with structured life-skills activities such as chores, hygiene routines, and daily responsibilities.
  • Provide support during admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed by supervisors.
3. Safety, Monitoring & Crisis Response
  • Conduct routine rounds, headcounts, and dorm checks according to program policy.
  • Monitor client behavior and promptly report safety concerns, rule violations, or unusual activity.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral incidents, conflicts, or emergencies using de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe facility environment by identifying and reporting hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Follow all emergency procedures including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and safety protocols.
4. Documentation, Communication & Compliance
  • Accurately complete required documentation including rounds logs, incident reports, and observation records.
  • Communicate important client updates, behavioral concerns, and shift information to supervisors and incoming staff.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and follow all HIPAA and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in shift handoffs, team meetings, and required training sessions.
  • Follow all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements including DBHDS, Medicaid, and Joint Commission standards.

About Wildwood Recovery Center

Wildwood Recovery Center is a compassionate, client-centered treatment facility located in Clintwood, Virginia that is dedicated to helping individuals reclaim their lives from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. We believe that recovery is possible for everyone and are committed to providing evidence-based care, education, and peer-driven support in a safe and nurturing environment. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to foster healing, growth, and long-term wellness through personalized treatment and community connection.

Requirements: Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in residential behavioral health, addiction treatment, or human services strongly preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record (for client transport duties) preferred.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the facility.
  • Must be able to pass a state and federal background check and drug screening per Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations.
  • CPR, First Aid, and CPI (Crisis Prevention/Intervention) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Familiarity with community resources, benefit programs, and recovery supports preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASAM 3.5, 3.1, 2.5 standards, Virginia Medicaid service requirements, and residential SUD programming preferred.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress or crisis situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and teamwork.
  • Understanding of addiction, recovery principles, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Team-oriented and reliable; committed to client safety and dignity.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or behavioral incidents.
