Job Summary
The Education Program offers services to students with disabilities in Multi-Categorical Instruction, Transition and Work-Based Learning. The Multi-Categorical Instruction Program provides students, ages 5-21, an inclusive approach designed for instructors to work with students on a curriculum addressing comprehensive, grade-level learning across subjects. The Transition Program offers instruction in areas of functional life skills, community involvement, pre-employment skills and daily living following the completion of 12th grade at a traditional high school. The Work-Based Learning Program helps students ages 18-21 gain real-world job experience while still receiving educational support. Students participate in hands-on learning opportunities in the community where they can develop workplace skills, explore careers and build independence.
The Special Education Teacher supervises specially trained paraprofessionals who work with individuals to provide an individualized program best suited to their needs, strengths, preferences and interests. The teacher plans and facilitates learning for the students. The teacher assists in establishing a positive learning environment while also maintaining progress and attendance records. The teacher will work collaboratively with students, parents, staff and other Individual Education Program team members to provide and implement the services to meet the needs of each student. The teacher ensures that a safe environment is maintained with clearly defined expectations with consistent procedures and routines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide guidance to paraprofessional staff to ensure effective program implementation and student support.
- Plan and deliver instruction using established curriculum frameworks and program requirements.
- Design and implement individualized instructional plans to address students' identified educational needs.
- Oversee the maintenance of a positive, structured classroom and work environment that promotes interpersonal growth, social skills development, problem-solving, and sound decision-making.
- Effectively coordinate and utilize paraprofessional staff to support student learning and achievement.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize learning opportunities and instructional time.
- Foster students' cognitive growth, critical thinking skills, and appreciation for lifelong learning.
- Promote and strengthen students' self-esteem, confidence, and personal development.
- Guide the learning process to ensure students achieve established program goals and objectives.
- Select and implement evidence-based instructional strategies, methods, and materials to support diverse learning needs.
- Maintain positive and consistent communication with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress and program activities.
- Collaborate with HOH program staff and actively participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional discussions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NE Teaching Certificate with endorsement in secondary Special Education.
- One to three years experience teaching students with disabilities.
- Pay is based on experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all levels of staff inside and outside the organization.
- Skilled in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills.
- Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to understand the individual needs of each student.
- Must have sufficient knowledge of computer systems (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Extensive knowledge of accepted standards of practice and ability to provide instruction and direction.
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and special education students.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements
Good hearing and visual skills; ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
Full time, Monday through Friday from 8a- 4p.
