Job Description

Staff Simulation Data Modeler

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Simulation Data Modeler based in the United States.

As a Staff Simulation Data Modeler, you will own the data foundation that powers a sophisticated simulation environment used to address complex military planning and operational challenges. You will shape the entity catalog across service branches, nations, and eras, ensuring the underlying data is accurate, current, defensible, and fit for purpose. This role combines deep research, quantitative modeling, AI-enabled workflows, and rigorous verification and validation. You will direct AI agents to accelerate research and content production while applying expert judgment to the decisions that require human oversight. Working closely with Engineering, Customer Relations, subject matter experts, and fellow simulation specialists, you will continuously challenge and improve the models. Your work will directly influence the credibility and effectiveness of simulation-based decision-making in high-stakes operational environments.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead catalog strategy across multiple segments, maintaining a structured view of entities across service branches, nations, and eras, including completion status, freshness, and confidence levels.
  • Translate customer and field feedback into a prioritized roadmap for catalog development in partnership with Customer Relations.
  • Research authoritative sources and establish clear standards, principles, and methodologies for creating and maintaining simulation entities.
  • Develop, evaluate, and defend quantitative models covering areas such as weapon effects, sensor performance, fuel consumption, survivability, and other system behaviors, partnering with Engineering on implementation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subject matter experts to support complex or contested modeling decisions with real-world expertise.
  • Design and supervise agentic AI workflows, including prompts, review processes, and guardrails, to scale research, data entry, documentation, and testing while maintaining quality.
  • Define requirements for new productivity and authoring tools and collaborate with Engineering to develop solutions that improve the simulation content workflow.
  • Lead verification, validation, and accreditation activities across multiple catalog segments, ensuring data is accurate, tested, traceable, and defensible.
  • Direct the development of automated test batteries and continuous testing processes that identify regressions, inconsistencies, and data-quality issues before they reach customers.
  • Organize competitive wargames with simulation content teams and Customer Relations to challenge assumptions, test entities, and refine parametric data.
  • Establish documentation standards and create internal and external-facing knowledge materials that clearly explain modeling logic, assumptions, and source material.
  • Train and mentor analysts and contributors on established tradecraft, modeling standards, rubrics, and verification and validation practices.
  • Serve as an escalation point for difficult technical decisions and communicate and defend conclusions effectively with customers and subject matter experts.
Requirements
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to make defensible assumptions when information is incomplete, inconsistent, or conflicting.
  • Demonstrated experience directing AI agents or agentic workflows through clear instructions, structured review checkpoints, and effective quality controls.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning skills and the ability to develop, interpret, and sanity-check formulas and performance models, even without being a production software developer.
  • Proven ability to organize and maintain large, structured datasets or catalogs containing hundreds of items while tracking freshness, accuracy, priorities, and data confidence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create precise standards, methodologies, and knowledge documentation that others can consistently follow.
  • A strong simulation or wargaming mindset, with a commitment to validating whether models accurately represent reality rather than simply ensuring that systems function technically.
  • Ability to operate independently, make sound technical judgments, and serve as an escalation point for contested or ambiguous modeling decisions.
  • Comfort defending technical assumptions and recommendations directly with customers, engineers, and subject matter experts.
  • Experience with game modding tools, simulation editors, or simulation authoring environments is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with Engineering on test automation, QA tooling, or workflow automation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with military doctrine, force structures, military platforms, or performance data is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with version control and bug-tracking systems is preferred.
  • Experience mentoring others or establishing technical standards adopted by a wider team is a plus.
Benefits
  • Opportunity to work on mission-critical simulation and AI-powered technology addressing complex real-world challenges.
  • High-impact Staff-level role with significant ownership over simulation data quality, modeling standards, and catalog strategy.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams spanning engineering, customer relations, simulation content, and subject matter expertise.
  • Opportunity to shape and expand modern agentic AI workflows for research, modeling, testing, and documentation.
  • Distributed work environment with opportunities to collaborate with teams and customers in operational settings.
  • Strong emphasis on autonomy, technical judgment, continuous learning, and meaningful ownership.
  • Additional compensation, benefits, and employment terms may vary based on location and applicable company policies.
