About the Position:
The Counselor I (Apprentice) is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).
What You Will Do:- Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
- Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum as required by contract. Leads and participates in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.
- Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participation and completion.
- Works directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
- Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, records visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
- Completes all delivery documentation requirements per contractual obligations in ARMS. Summarizes participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
- Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
- Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
- Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required: Counselor I must meet one (1) of the following requirements:
- Less than one (1) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
- Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six (6) months of experience providing CBI services.
Preferred: NONE
Certifications or Licenses: Required
- Current AOD Certification with organization recognized by the DHCS OR Registration with BBS or AOD certifying body; depending on education level. Preferred: NONE
Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical and social effects of drug abuse.
- Knowledge of contractual requirements of ISUDTP is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
- Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
- Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
ADA Information: Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally adjusts or moves objects up to 50lbs. in all directions.
- Constantly remains in a stationary position often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Repeats motions that may include the wrists, hands and / or fingers.
- Constantly moves from one work yard to another daily.
- Frequently walks on hard or uneven surfaces.
- Required to communicate verbally and in written form.
- Uses all types of vision, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to complete daily tasks.
- Assesses the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Occasionally required to climb, bend, stretch, reach or stoop.
- Required to wear comfortable and location appropriate clothing and shoes.
Mental Demands:
- Ability to change directions as a priorities shift.
- Ability to thrive in environment that require the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Ability to cope with occasionally difficult or temperamental students and faculty.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress related to the position.
Work Conditions:
This is Non-Exempt position.
$28 - $28 an hour
