Job Description

Senior Level Designer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Level Designer based in Canada.

This is an opportunity to shape high-quality gameplay spaces for a third-person multiplayer action game in a creative, remote-first environment.
You’ll own levels from early concepts and blockouts through implementation, iteration, testing, and final polish.
Your work will directly influence combat, traversal, pacing, player flow, and the overall multiplayer experience.
You’ll collaborate closely with game design, art, engineering, audio, and production to bring compelling spaces to life.
The role combines creative level design with hands-on implementation, scripting, debugging, and gameplay iteration.
You’ll help create environments that encourage different strategies, player expression, replayability, and memorable gameplay moments.
It’s an ideal role for an experienced designer who enjoys solving spatial and gameplay challenges while contributing to a collaborative development team.

Accountabilities:
  • Design and build gameplay spaces end-to-end, covering layout, combat areas, traversal, pacing, player flow, objectives, and environmental composition.
  • Create multiplayer levels that support varied combat scenarios, multiple strategies, team dynamics, and balanced player experiences.
  • Collaborate with game design, art, engineering, audio, and production to implement content in alignment with the established creative vision.
  • Translate high-level gameplay goals into practical level layouts and interactive spaces while identifying potential inconsistencies, risks, and dependencies.
  • Implement gameplay events, encounters, objectives, triggers, and environmental interactions using appropriate in-engine tools and scripting workflows.
  • Work within production schedules, communicating progress, dependencies, risks, and implementation challenges clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Regularly playtest, debug, and iterate on levels to improve navigation, combat balance, pacing, readability, progression, and overall player experience.
  • Incorporate feedback constructively, refining layouts, encounters, pacing, and gameplay spaces throughout development.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of core gameplay systems and their relationship to level design, adapting spaces to support multiple playstyles and systemic interactions.
  • Contribute to memorable gameplay moments through thoughtful composition, environmental storytelling, pacing, and spatial design.
  • Take ownership of assigned content while independently managing priorities, solving implementation problems, and maintaining a high standard of polish.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of professional game development experience, with a strong focus on level design for action, multiplayer, or combat-oriented games.
  • Experience shipping at least one game, preferably a multiplayer action or third-person title, with an understanding of the complete content lifecycle from implementation through polish.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, including in-engine level editing, Blueprint scripting, gameplay implementation, debugging, and iteration.
  • Strong understanding of combat-space design, player navigation, encounter pacing, gameplay readability, objective placement, and multiplayer level flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned content, manage priorities, respond to feedback, and resolve implementation challenges in a fast-moving production environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across design, art, engineering, audio, and production disciplines.
  • A strong understanding of how gameplay systems and level design interact to create engaging, replayable experiences.
  • Passion for third-person action games and competitive or cooperative multiplayer experiences.
  • Interest in hands-on level implementation, including layout design, encounter setup, scripting, gameplay integration, and iterative testing.
  • Appreciation for systemic gameplay, player expression, replayability, and the creation of multiple tactical approaches.
  • A strong eye for polish, clarity, player comprehension, and gameplay balance, with a willingness to iterate until spaces deliver the intended experience.
  • Curiosity about the relationship between level design, gameplay systems, and player behaviour.
Benefits:
  • Annual salary range of $115,000–$149,500 CAD.
  • Remote-first working environment.
  • Flexible work arrangements designed to support distributed teams.
  • Opportunity to work on a third-person multiplayer action game and create highly replayable gameplay experiences.
  • Collaborative environment spanning game design, art, engineering, audio, and production.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of levels throughout the full development lifecycle, from concept to polish.
  • Long-term career opportunities within an independent game development environment.
  • Eligibility requirement: candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and currently reside in Canada.
