Director, Regulatory Affairs

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Regulatory Affairs based in the United States.

This is a high-impact regulatory leadership role focused on shaping and advancing the approval pathways for large-scale electric transmission projects across key U.S. energy markets. The position sits at the intersection of policy, infrastructure development, and stakeholder engagement, influencing how major grid modernization initiatives are approved and implemented. You will work closely with internal technical, legal, and commercial teams while engaging external regulators, utilities, and industry stakeholders. The role is highly strategic and requires both policy depth and strong execution capability in complex regulatory environments. It offers the opportunity to directly contribute to the expansion of resilient, cost-effective energy infrastructure nationwide. You will operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where collaboration and influence are essential. The work has long-term impact on grid reliability, affordability, and energy transition outcomes.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead regional regulatory strategy for electric transmission projects, ensuring alignment with development goals and regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, policymakers, utilities, RTOs/ISOs, and industry stakeholders
  • Drive policy advocacy efforts supporting scalable and efficient transmission infrastructure development
  • Represent the organization in regulatory forums, industry groups, and external stakeholder engagements
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, legal, commercial, project development) to align regulatory execution
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain regulatory filings, documentation, and compliance materials
  • Monitor regulatory and market developments to inform strategy and anticipate risks or opportunities
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Law, Public Policy, or related field (advanced degree a plus)
  • 8+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, government relations, or policy roles in energy, infrastructure, or utilities
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulatory frameworks related to electric transmission or similar sectors
  • Proven experience working with regulators, utilities, and industry bodies including RTOs/ISOs and commissions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to simplify complex regulatory topics
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%
