Job Description

This role requires weekend, holiday, and morning availability. This is a part-time position with variable hours based on availability and business needs. Flexibility with scheduling is essential to meet the needs of our hotel operations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Houseperson is responsible for cleaning and maintaining hotel public areas, service areas, and assigned back-of-house spaces to hotel brand and cleanliness standards. This role supports the Housekeeping team by transporting linen and supplies, responding to guest requests, assisting with room preparation and special cleaning projects, and helping ensure the hotel remains clean, safe, organized, and guest-ready.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Clean and maintain assigned public areas, including lobbies, hallways, corridors, elevators, stairwells, public restrooms, fitness areas, meeting spaces, entrances, and back-of-house areas.
  • Dust, vacuum, sweep, mop, sanitize surfaces, clean glass and windows, and spot-clean walls, doors, furniture, carpets, and upholstery as assigned.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers, replace liners, and transport waste to designated disposal areas in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Maintain public restrooms by cleaning and sanitizing fixtures and surfaces and restocking paper products, soap, and other supplies.
  • Collect, transport, and distribute clean and soiled linen, towels, guest supplies, rollaway beds, cribs, and other housekeeping items using designated carts or equipment.
  • Restock housekeeping closets, carts, and storage areas; keep supplies and equipment clean, orderly, and secured.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests for linens, towels, toiletries, and other approved amenities; communicate completion or concerns to the appropriate team member.
  • Assist Room Attendants with removing soiled linen and trash, delivering supplies, preparing rooms for cleaning, and completing room turns or special cleaning tasks as directed.
  • Use cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment safely and as directed, following label instructions, training, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, damage, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or missing items and report issues promptly.
  • Follow lost-and-found procedures and secure and report found items immediately according to policy.
  • Follow all hotel safety, security, sanitation, and emergency procedures; report accidents, injuries, spills, hazards, or unsafe conditions promptly to management.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Assist with deep cleaning and special projects, including carpet extraction, upholstery cleaning, floor care, washing walls, cleaning baseboards, and other detailed cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Support laundry operations, meeting-room setup, or other hotel departments as business needs require and as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, professional uniform and personal appearance and contribute to a hospitable service atmosphere.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous hotel, housekeeping, janitorial, custodial, or similar cleaning experience preferred; training is provided.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow cleaning procedures, checklists, chemical labels, and safety instructions consistently.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and complete work within required timeframes.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, organization, and quality standards.
  • Ability to safely operate vacuums, carpet extractors, carts, mops, and other housekeeping equipment after training.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with guests, supervisors, and team members.
  • Ability to recognize room numbers, public-area locations, basic signs, and safety information.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and guest privacy while working in guest-accessible areas or occupied rooms.
  • Ability to work in a 7-day per week, 24-hour per day business environment, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.

  • Frequent standing and walking for extended periods throughout an 8-hour shift; may include walking long distances between guest rooms and service areas.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching (including overhead), and twisting while cleaning guest rooms, bathrooms, and public areas.
  • Frequent pushing/pulling and maneuvering of housekeeping carts, vacuums, and other equipment in corridors, elevators, and occasionally on ramps or uneven surfaces.
  • Frequent repetitive use of hands/arms for wiping, scrubbing, vacuuming, making beds, lifting mattresses, and carrying items; requires hand/eye coordination and grip strength.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 30 lbs frequently (e.g., linens, trash bags, cleaning supplies) and up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance or equipment as needed.
  • Work is performed in guest rooms, corridors, stairwells, and public areas with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, and bodily fluids/trash; may require use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Environment may include wet/slippery surfaces, moving carts in tight spaces, varying temperatures/humidity, and moderate noise levels typical of hotel operations; work pace may be fast to meet room turn times.
